In due time, I'd like to know what Steve has to say about this particular hat.

Re: CS Fedora "Screen Used" Auction
Why do you suppose the "bilt" part of "Adventurebilt" is crossed out with black marker? Did Ford do it when he signed the hat?

Re: CS Fedora "Screen Used" Auction
But isn't that the gold liner that was used in the stunt hats?
Re: CS Fedora "Screen Used" Auction
Was the AdventureBilt sweatband used in those hats? (as they didn't use the AB Logo, I thought they maybe had used a plain sweatband, too)
Re: CS Fedora "Screen Used" Auction
They didn't use the Staff of Ra liner because they didn't want to get George mad.Odo wrote:Was the AdventureBilt sweatband used in those hats? (as they didn't use the AB Logo, I thought they maybe had used a plain sweatband, too)

Re: CS Fedora "Screen Used" Auction
You'd think they'd do a better job fact-checking. They use a picture from Raiders to auction a CS hat and then describe GL as the director of the movie.
The liner seems to the be correct gold color, but I also wonder about the sweatband. I hope Steve or Marc will weigh in on whether the sweats were their branded ones or plain.

Indiana Jeff

Re: CS Fedora "Screen Used" Auction
Not to speak for Steve or Marc, but if you look at some stills and look at the DVD you can see the sweats they used were the branded ones. So I'm sure the hat is genuine.

Re: CS Fedora "Screen Used" Auction
There were branded sweats used in film hats. I believe when the hat comes off during the rocket sled scene, you can see the sweat if you look closely. They also used plain liners for the hats, some which were dyed the gold color once received.
Re: CS Fedora "Screen Used" Auction
This was done in filming in case the script was seen. They did not want to show who made the hats, which is why we had to use plain liners. Instead of crossing out the entire company name, they just blacked out part of it. Now the reason they did not want to identify the hat company, and its logo or crest on the liner, was because they would have had to research(the legal boys) the crest and name to insure it was not copywrited, by someone else, other than me. They had no time for the research as I was told it would take a few weeks, and at that point, we were behind schedule. So, a legal reason. Why do you suppose the "bilt" part of "Adventurebilt" is crossed out with black marker? Did Ford do it when he signed the hat?
Yep, that is indeed a film hat, no doubt. Has the European liner that I bought from Art and put into Harrisons hats.
Bernie wanted plain sweats, I told we I had none, so he said he could scratch off the gold letters if need be. Looks like he just blacked out part of the name though. For me, I am pleased he did not scratch off my name..completely! Anyone who owns one of my hats, knows my script well enough to identify this one as mine. Fedora

Re: CS Fedora "Screen Used" Auction
Ya I like the estimated value of the hat, $10000 smackers. Just way too absurd to buy myself. Unless I was to win something... what was the daily lotto numbers again? Best of luck on whoever wants to bid.

Maybe "Screen Used", and he gets another Indy hat...
Re: CS Fedora "Screen Used" Auction
Steve, if I had the money I would bid on it, win it and give it to you my friend. That would close the loop and the hat would be where it belongs - in your possession, with Ford's signature on it. There couldn't be a better memento of your achievement, and you earned it for certain.Fedora wrote:Anyone who owns one of my hats, knows my script well enough to identify this one as mine. Fedora

Re: CS Fedora "Screen Used" Auction
So, what do you make of it so far? Is this supposed to be an actual hat off of the set used by Harrison Ford, or a fraud? Based on the evidence we've got, is this the real deal?

It looks like it's an actual film hat, then. I wonder what the ending bid will be.

So I guess if we want to make our hats as screen accurate as possible, we'll have to look into that sharpie brand...

Re: CS Fedora "Screen Used" Auction
No, actually a 7 3/8. But translates into a 7 1/4 in English sizing. That is where the confusion started, as I suppose Swales gave Ford's size using the English size. We assumed he used American sizing. Wrong assumption. FedoraWait, Harrison wears a 7 1/4, ####, wouldn't fit!

Re: CS Fedora "Screen Used" Auction
Well, as we know, old and inaccurate info seems to have a life of its own! When Bernie was grilling us with questions of the specs of the prior Indy fedoras, the specs used to make those hats, we got em all right, except for the size! When I sent in my first sample, to make sure he could get it on his head, I made the hat in a 22 7/8. WHich is between a 7 1/4 and 7 3/8. Harrison commented the hat fit a "little tight" to which Bernie replied, it needed to be a little tight to keep it on in the action scenes. A 7 3/8 or 23 incher would have fit him comfortably. This is when I discovered the error with the English sizing vs. the American sizing. Thanks for posting that, Fedora! I've posted that info before, but no one believed me.
I am curious what the final bid will be for this screen used hat. Hope someone keeps up with it, I just don't have the time to look. Fedroa

Nah, If something I made would be in an auction like that, I would be curious about what the winning bid will be too. Kinda like: "they're paying What for that thing I did!?"
Regards, Geert
Re: CS Fedora "Screen Used" Auction
My thoughts exactly!! I get amazed at what something that was on Ford's head fetches. Specially when it was one of our hats! I can then say, hey, I made a hat once that was worth 9 grand, or whatever it sells for. FedoraKinda like: "they're paying What for that thing I did!?"

Re: CS Fedora "Screen Used" Auction
The actual auction doesn't say it was screen used or on Ford's head. It was from George's collection and certainly hasn't been sweat in. Ford might have put it on before signing it. It's obviously been distressed for the movie though. The "screen used" came from the Star Wars page link.

Well, the article in the first link says:

I'd say based on that single line it's safe to say the possibility of it being screen used is pretty good.".... own one of the famous fedoras actually worn by Harrison Ford during production of Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. "

...as a matter of fact.......no, it doesn't.

Re: CS Fedora "Screen Used" Auction
And some sweat stains were added, by Bernie. Fake sweat stains. LOL.It still doesn't have any sweat stains though.
On the stunt hats, Bernie made some of the stunt guys to wear a piece of cloth on their heads, to insure they did not stain up the ribbon with their own sweat!! Not sure why, but he must have had a good reason. With the loss of various stunt doubles due to injuries, he may have wanted to use a hat for another stuntman. Hence the piece of cloth....Fedora
