Tony Nowak Price Increase

Post by jnicktem »

I e-mailed Tony a little while ago asking for confirmation of his prices. I was interested in his Crystal Skulls jacket. As it turns out, his prices have increased... and very recently it seems. So this is just an FYI for all those out there.

Here is what Tony said:

""HELLO NICK ! THEY ARE $ 750.00 plus shipping ,KIND REGARDS TONY NOWAK ."

And then I asked him if his other leather options also increased in price. This was his reply:

"NO , THE INDY 4 IS THE VERY MOST AUTHENTIC THERE IS IN EVERY WAY , I DID HOLD THE PRICE AS LONG AS I COULD , WHAT MATTERS THAT I STILL CAN MAKE THAT JACKET IN THE ORIGINAL CONDITON .BEST T.N."

So there you have it!

Haven't they always been $750? - That's what I paid for mine and that was September 2008

Indyzane said when he visited Tony on Feb 10th the price was $650 plus shipping. Tony also told me that the price did indeed increase.

Yes I paid $650.00 (Edit I paid $675.00 not $650.00)plus shipping for my KOTCS Jacket in the (KOTCS) dark leather.
I also ordered a LC in the same leather which was $750.00 plus shipping. Tony never metioned he was raising his prices. Anyways I am sure it's worth it!

I have only ever read $750 or more if it's the special stuff. So I am surprised at hearing of cheaper prices.

When I ordered mine at the summit I was told it was 750 - then I was billed 950 for it - I think there was a mistake in the original quote as I ordered the goat and I think that was more expensive. I thought it was a steal at 750 though.

Wow- I didn't realize the prices varied so much! I have always thought the basic CS jacket was either $650-675. And it sounds like there have been quite a few that got it for that much. Now I hear there are other people who were charged $750 for it.

Does anyone know the reasons behind this? Are the higher prices because of more custom requests?

I think the price of some have gone up simply because costs have gone up

Tony rarely charges extra for custom requests such as extra inside pockets.

Beyond that no one here can really answer your question, other than Tony.

A $75 increase in just under 2 years is not that big a jump when compared to other custom made commodities...even in THESE lean times. Considering there may not be that many orders coming as before, it had to be made up somewhere.

I think $750 for a completely SA jacket pattern, leather, and distressing all custom sized is a great price. You are pretty much getting exactly what is used/seen on screen, except its not off HF's shoulders. Its made for you own ;)

Weird. There was a very recent post here somewhere where someone said they had just spoke to Tony and mentioned for whatever reason that there was no price increase and now it's gone. Then not a day later this thread pops up totally contradicting what was first said. Weird...

Even though the price of his Crystal Skull jacket went up... I am still interested in getting a jacket from Tony. So yesterday I requested some leather samples from Tony. I am really interested in the 747 leather. But now I can't decide if I want a Raiders jacket or a Crystal Skulls jacket.

Hello eveyone,
I just realized I paid $675.00 plus $25.00(shipping) for my KOTCS! So I was off by $25 my bad. I just checked my Amex bill and he charged me $700.00 for it. So I am so sorry I just got confused. Now I need to go back and tell everyone! My boss just committed suicide and things have been very crazy at work as you can guess. Again sorry just been real crazy around here.

Thanks guys for the kinds words it's very sad. Anyways I don't want to hijack this thread.

So the one thing that always made me wonder? Why did Tony charge less for his jacket(CS) and more for the others? You might think that his would be more! When I was visiting with Tony he said he was taking a trip to Italy mid March with his son to look for more leather. So maybe his supplier raised thier prices?

One more thing that I was thinking about have you ever been in a NICE department store like Nordstroms and priced leather jackets? I have and I recall them being in the $600-$900 price range. So Tonys only charging $750-$975 plus shipping for a custom made jacket! That's a killer deal in my book, but then again it's my book.

It's true - but also his jackets (CS) also vary in price. IT all depends on the leather you want.

very well stated my friend. I have been in stores who sale leather jackets in that price rang and they aren't half as good as the nowak jacket. His jackets are worth it on many levels. Don't forget they are custom not off the rack and they are better and less than these big brand names.

I can't praise my Crystal Skull jackets from Tony enough. It's been a very warm Summer here in Australia, so obviously they haven't seen much use for a while.
I had them out a few days ago just to look at them and try them on, and they are incredible. The Crystal Skull leather, dark or light (I have one of each), is just the best I've ever worn.
It's light for cowhide, and just the right mix of a shiny/dull finish. Feels super tough too.
I paid $750 each for mine (plus shipping), mid-2009, and they're worth every penny.

Since this is my thread- I am going to shift the topic slightly. Right now I am trying to raise money for a Nowak purchase (one of the $750ish ones), and I am trying to justify it. I do already have a couple of nice jackets as it is. However, the way I see it I could either get a Nowak, and another AB Deluxe (I got my eyes on that Kaplan Jr.)

Believe it or not, I know if I get a Nowak it will be my one and only (unless I find one second hand for really cheap). And within the immediate future I can foresee only one more AB Deluxe purchase (and that's still a maybe).

So what do you guys think? A Nowak? Or an AB Deluxe?

That's hard one. One is a jacket one a hat.
If it were me I think I'd go for the jacket and save for the hat later.
I suspect you're maybe more likely to find a hat for sale later than the jacket as well.

Mixed thoughts here.... :-k

Hats you use year round. The jacket 2, maybe 3 seasons...but...

That said, you'll be more apt to find a used AB in the classified in your size than you will a Nowak made to your custom specifications.

I'd have to vote Nowak too, using that logic.

Were you going for a different color or other variation on your AB? If you have one and was getting something similar, I'd go for the Nowak.

Keep in mind, however, that I'm quite a bit more of a jacket guy than a hat guy. ;)

I was going to go for the Kaplan Jr. AB Deluxe (the hat in the top right corner of the ABD web site). So it would be a little different than the current AB Deluxe that I will soon have.

Not at all! What gave you that idea!?

But yeah, you can just wear it more, in more places, and have it be appropriate / not "weird". You can blend a jacket with your regular clothes much more, which to me is what makes any item of gear practical. A hat is not so easy to do so with.

Either way, you guys really gave me something to think about. At first I was leaning heavily on the thought of just getting another AB Deluxe. However, now I am leaning more towards the Nowak.

Any thoughts or comments will still be appreciated!

based on your choices, I'd have to say that the Nowak Raiders would be the end all, be all. My personal preference is Wested because I like the leathers, and even though the cut isn't the most screen accurate (ironically enough, but that's a WHOLE different story  ) I think the Wested gives off the best Raiders appeal.
Get a Nowak Raiders, and choose a leather with plenty of drape. My two centavos :TOH:

Thanks for the reply! Yeah, right now I am thinking of going for the Nowak. However- I am just reeeeaaallllly nervous about it. I don't want to mess up any of the measurements as I can't afford to have the jacket replaced. I know Tony has a magical touch on getting the fit right... but it still makes me nervous until I get the jacket and try it on and see so for myself.

Also, a little more than 3 weeks ago Tony said he was going to be sending me some leather samples for me to check out. A week and a half ago I tried to contact Tony about it and got nothing. I tried again a couple of days ago and still couldn't get a hold of him. Is he out of town or something?

He's been running around the clock, literally, working on completing three movies, and filling other personal jacket orders.
Soon he'll be heading to Italy.
I'm not surprised he isn't easy to get in touch with at the present time.
Do you need the leather samples right away? You're that ready to place an order?

I wouldn't know if he's sent them, I'd suspect not.
Some leather I know he won't send samples of, and I think he usually prefers to send them after someone wants to place an order.

I told him I was very interested in possibly placing an order... but I wanted to see some leather samples to help make a firm decision. He asked for my address and said he would send those right out to me. I am guessing he wasn't able to get them out... and that's fine. I probably won't be able to place an order for at least another month anyways. In that time I can work out specs and such.

That's what I'm hoping! I know Tony is a busy guy so I don't like pushing him... but choosing the right leather for the one and only Nowak I am ever going to get (and my LAST Indy jacket!!!) is pretty important.

I am just going to try maybe once a week to get ahold of him.
