JCrew Does Indy: Aldens for Sale

Post by Bartram »

Anybody else see this yet? http://www.jcrew.com/AST/Browse/MensBro ... /18428.jsp
JCrew's Spring line has Alden's - and they look great;)

It's kind of like when your fav indie band gets signed to a major label (no pun intended).

Hard to imagine a pair of shoes being over $500, once tax and shipping is all said and done....

I thought $344 for them from ShoeMart was steep enough

These look a little different then the other boots that were posted before. The side stitching and the colour are different. I think the previous boots were Chromexcel leather, where these ones are just a dark brown. The other boots were only exclusive to that ONE store in NYC as well (as Mike has stated). These look like they are available across the entire Jcrew range this time around.

At that price I'd buy another pair - too bad they seem to be out of sizes larger than 11 1/2

Actually, looking again, these are the same boots as before. Look closely, the stitching IS the same and the colour is the same too. #-o

These are actually really nice boots - I prefer them to my regular aldens

I can take some comparison shots of my aldens and the Jcrew aldens if people want.

Here are my aldens - my first pair on the far left - nicely worn in - the middle pair from about 2 years ago(thinking of selling them -I never wear them), and the JCREW pair on the right. You can see they're leather lined inside -- it makes them very comfortable to wear. I like the heel on the JC aldens too.

Thank you for posting the pics along with your comments. All are very helpful and appreciated. :H:

I have only one pair of Aldens, and I ordered then a 1/2 size smaller than the size I normally wear, (as Alden's suggested.) They fit a bit snug on me and at the end of the day my toe knuckles are hating life!

My next pair, be them J.Crew or not, will be my true size. (The size issue also helps me justify this purchase! ;) )

Thanks again!

Michael :TOH:
Michael,
What size are the pair you're replacing?
Wanna get rid of them on the cheap..wink wink?:)

I think we chatted about this in a past thread as well when I was asking about true size info. Order your true size!! I did and my aldens fit perfectly.

Back on topic. I love these boots but some how I just can't justify spending that kind of money. For me even 300.00 is steep. But 500.00??? I guess if you got the money..

I wear an 11 wide. It does not show a wide size on their chart. Any ideas? they sure do look nice. The only other options in the past were Leathersoul of Hawaii and Adventurebuilt. Is that correct? Leather lining sounds great.

Here's a really nice picture of the boot from JC that I photomerged in Photoshop.
Enjoy all the details in their HIGH RESOLUTION glory.

You have awesome computer skills, especially for an old guy! ;)

This is the large shot I referred to previously when I wondered about "predistressing." :-k

Look closely at the leather around the heel area of the upper. It looks pretty beat up! :H:

Michael :TOH:
That's what caught my eye immediately when you use that little zoom tool on their site to see the higher res picture. I had to capture about 20 of these little section to piece the whole shot together.

It looks like the shoes ran through my backyard with the huge cane blackberry bushes! Those thorns are murder!!!

I'm a computer graphics guy for a living and use Photoshop daily. I started back in '87 of the last century. Yep my kids can't believe some of the things I can do. :D The problems is, they don't have enough patience to learn.

I have a pair of J Crew close enough boots from a long while back and I often go to the site and nearly pull the trigger on these Alden 405's. However, I always remember why I don't purchase them...the stitching is not accurate to the other 405s, they are like a copy of their J Crew boot that was a great close enough. The stitching around the heal just doesn't replicate the boot, which is the whole purpose of buying Alden in the first place.

I actually prefer the stitching around the heel of the boot to the actual 405's. To me they make the boot look much more period accurate. JMO.
