Pres. Obama and his Indy hat....

Post by Fedora »

I thought this would again show that most folks really don't know what a real Indy fedora looks like. Check this out. http://popgloss.com/home/news/obama/10737/

It is a nice looking hat though. I may not like him or his politics, but I have to say, the guy has style.

If it's the same hat maker, I have a feeling right after that article was printed and the hat delivered, the price suddenly went up!

$8,000 my god that’s absolutely ridicules. Could you imagine Steve if everyone that bought a hat from you paid $8K. You'd need a place like this to put your stash...

I think us gear fans are smarter than that! NO HAT is worth that much money, unless it is a film hat, used in the film. And for a collector.

I am shocked that anyone would pay 8 grand for a hat, just because Pres. Bush had one made, and I assume it's a custom hat. It's crazy.

I understand the demand versus supply deal, but still...it's just crazy.

I got a chuckle out of Obama's western hat. But at least it wasn't a Malcolm X type of hat. Still, Pres. Obama would look better in a wide brimmed fedora. A brown one. With a dimensional brim. And dark brown ribbon.... and pure beaver fur..... And if he would wear a leather flight jacket like Clinton did, we might have a new member here. Fedora

Here's some info on that pricey hat.
“I was commissioned to build two hats for former President George W. Bush in honor of his first election and again after his re-election. After the second hat, I was contacted by the State Department to see if I would re-create the same hat with the President’s signature in it. Those hats were used as gifts to visiting dignitaries. The Amir of Kuwait, Secretary General of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization and Vladimir Putin all wear Greeley Hat Works creations.
He must have went up after the second hat. Not offered on his site, so I guess you must request it-special. Fedora

Why doesn't AB offer the president a real Indy hat as a gift? It just might increase the value of our hats even further.

You're not alone in thinking that. I remember, back before the Inauguration, there was this guy trying to give Obama a fedora to wear at the ceremony. The idea was that after Kennedy supposedly destroyed the popularity of fedoras forever by not wearing one at his inauguration, Obama would bring it back. Didn't work though, obviously, although there were a few feds on the platform, as I recall

Funny thing was, the guy was trying to give Obama a Stetson, and one of the fedoras in Stetson's "Presidential Collection" is none other than a Temple. :D

We're walking a fine line on this one, folks, regardless of your political affiliation.

Just a refresher on the rules: http://indygear.com/cow/viewtopic.php?f=23&t=9941
Religious and/or political discussions are not allowed.
I'm not trying to rain on any parades, but I really don't see where this thread can go at this point without turning into a political discussion along party lines. Besides, it stopped being Indy related after the first post, so it's best to end it here and move along.
