So please if any of you guys can give a hand on how to make it look Soc please tell me.

the problem with SOC, as long as I know, is that to obtain "the" look you really should distress your hat. The famous bulge effect is obtained by sitting on the fedora, for example.

two of the typical traits of this particular style are the back brim snapped down, and the front brim sporting a little curl on the right eye and a sort of bump.

ask Fedoraiders for more informations. He is specialized in this kind of style

There are a lot of things going on with the SoC hat. For starters, the hat looks like it is wilting, probably due to the extreme heat of shooting in Tunisia. There is a bulging in the hat that Restless Dreamer spoke about. This isn't easily achieved but a good start is sitting on the hat. I've also read that the sweatband may have been doubled in half, making for a tighter fit. The brim isn't snapped down, it has just lost it's curl. The hat looks like it is about ready to die is what it is. There really is no way to get this looks out of a new hat without beating the snot out of it.

Take care though if it's one of Peters bros. stiff helt hats. Crushing or sitting on a very stiff hat, can crease the felt or even worse make it crack.

I've sat on my PB but that one is many years old and has gotten considerably softer.

That is very true. Good point. If your PB is one of the stiff hats, sitting on it could crack the felt. You cannot get the SoC looks with stiff felt. It has to be as soft and floppy as possible.

I've already completed one while you were typing...not quite sure the snot to fur ratio is quite right. :-k What do you think?

Okay, that made my day. And with that, I'm going to tell myself to get back on topic!

Alex, the SoC hat went through the ringer. While your PB may or may not be stiff, most felt can be softened by massaging it in your hands for a while. Some of the shaping of it comes with a bit of experimentation, too, but the fellas here have provided some good feedback so far. ;)

You might also want to look at the main indygear page for some GREAT photos of the SOC hat for ideas.

First you need the right felt. Without it, it is hard to pull off. You need a no stiffener rabbit hat, zero.

Then you need to get rid of the crisp brim break, which is easy to do with the lower quality rabbit hats. The SOC hat has a very relaxed brim break. It droops.

Then there is the crown. It needs to be beaten up, and alot. Fedora

Hey Alex, you could always try the BullittBand(c) :P technique.
I took some pics for you with the elastic band. The idea is that you only wet the area where you want the effect of the band to show, if that makes any sense. I did not wet the front for instance. After I put the band on, I would really crease the non-bow side and back with my hands from the inside. This comes down to preference, of course. Then let dry overnight.
NOTE: The elastic band will leave a square impression in the felt. That's why I tucked it just under the ribbon. I didn't do that in the photos, for obvious reasons. However, the impression can also be cleared with a hat brush. Again, preference. Hope this helps ;)

Oh yeah, I don't think anyone mentioned this :P , but beat it up! It works wonders! ;)

What do you mean by looks real? That is real! You've never seen the True Blue Label jacket by US Wings? ;)
