Looks great, and has a really modern appeal. It's time that nylon whips get the recognition
they deserve. Again - great look and I'm curious how it handles. Congratulations on that one.

Thanks you guys. The Performance Hybrid section of the website just went up a couple days ago, so if anything's not clear on there, please be sure to pipe up... I'll do my best to answer your question, and update the site again to make things more clear.

Kooniu, I don't have any special information to give you... I buy most of my supplies for this whip through a local hardware store out here in the wild west. :)

Nick, I'll email you... The base price for whatever in-stock colors you want based on the diagram up on the site is $115 per whip. And in the spirit of these whips, and to help anyone wanting to get into two-handed cracking as well, there's no extra charge tacked on to make two whips into a matched pair. But as you can already see in the small but growing photo gallery (http://performancehybrid.wordpress.com) there are plenty of ways to customize the whips as well, including adding leather falls. The wait time on the PH whips is so far also a lot less than on our 'roo whips as well, since I'm working on them in my free time in the evenings after our 'roo work is done for the day.

Lol...what have I done... There are at least three red and black Performance Hybrid Nylon Whips on their site. :rolling:

Can't wait til she arrives, Lauren. Will definitely take some pics. Now...to find someone to take them while I'm whip cracking.

It arrived today! Safe and sound. Since this is my first ever stock whip, I was a little surprised and nervous when Laurent told me that I'd have to attach the thong to the handle myself. Thankfully, there were instructions included for the French Grapevine. Please excuse my noobness in tying it; it was the first time I've ever done it, so there are a few gaps. Here are a couple of shots:

It was a lot stiffer than I thought it would be, so I'll definitely enjoy breaking the whip in. Took it out for a test run real quick. Cattlemans Crack, Overhead Crack, Underhand Flick, and Side Flick all crack beautifully. Having a bit of trouble with the forward flick: I ether caught the whip with the popper or ended up hitting myself. Forearm took the blunt of it, and luckily I was wearing my Penman, otherwise my head would be ringing. She's definitely a beaut. Will take more artsy pics later (especially in red and black clothes). Thanks so much, Lauren! :whip:

ichnob, you did an amazing job with the french grapevine! The post office has recently decided to change some of its policies on shipping prices for certain box sizes, so when I decided to ship these whips with thong and handle separate in order to be able to use our regular boxes and keep the shipping costs lower, I was slightly worried about people having to assemble the two pieces. I spent quite a while drawing up those illustrated instructions for the grapevine. You, however, have wiped my worries away completely - your grapevine looks absolutely excellent, and I'm not exaggerating! It's deceptively simple to do, eh? And even better, now you have learned a little piece of whipmaking that dozens (probably even hundreds) of whipmakers across the centuries have been doing, from us at MidWestWhips to whipmakers like Simon Martin in Australia, and even the great historical whipmaker Cecil Henderson.

So congratulations, and I'm very happy to hear you're enjoying your whip already. Just keep concentrating on and experimenting with your form, and I'm sure the overhand flick will come. Thank you for posting the pictures of the whip after you attached the thong, and I look forward to your more artsy photos too. By red and black clothes do you mean a Chicago Bulls Jersey? :P

Thank you,

Lauren is a real craftsman who takes great pride in her work ... and it shows.
Her plaiting is beautiful. The handles of these whips are really nice.
She pays great attention to detail which makes the "look" of her whips neat as a pin.
They crack great too.
I have been using her hybrids since last summer. I have two with traditional falls and one with a twisted end and nylon fall.
All have been incorporated into my shows on a regular basis, from double handed routines (the white pair with the white hide falls)
to super close target cutting with my wife (using the traditional twisted end whip in red and black). These whips have really gone the distance and can take the "abuse" of more than frequent cracking and performing. I have used these in nearly all performance situations, from stages with slick floors to streets where whips can really take a pounding.
Originally, I found the whips a little light, but quickly became acclimated to their weight. As with every whip, you have to get acquainted with each other.
The only downfall to Lauren's whips is that they currently only come in one length. Something that I am sure will change in time.
There are some really great nylon whip makers out there, like Rhett Kelly and Steve Huntress. (I mention these two because I use, or have used their whips in the past — not to slight any other ones out there ... I just don't have any experience wit them).
I would have to consider Lauren one of those top makers and would encourage anyone interested in nylon whips, to give Lauren, Steve, or Rhett a try. You won't be sorry.

Chris, thank you for the kind words! I know that with the quantity of shows you do each year, you've really been putting your PH whips through the paces... and I'm really happy to hear that they're performing so well for you, and that they're holding up so well too.

If you want to see a video of Chris and his PH whips in action, we've got a quick video up on Youtube of Chris showing off his awesome whipcracking (and rhythmic!) skills using his white pair of PH whips. I think Paul took the video when he was back in Missouri visiting family and friends last fall. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r-6FWwUmv_w

I've also been really excited about how many matched pairs we've made - I haven't checked the number exactly, but I think we've made at least as many matched pairs as single PH whips. I'm hoping this means that more people are using them in one of the big ways we'd hoped: to get into two-handed whipcracking! Clarke's matched pair is a great example - he started out with a single PH whip, then got a matched pair, and now he's already doing the Queensland Crossover! Hooray Clarke! :)

Nilon whips?

For me, the nilon whips have one function only: crack in wet space.
