Hello,
I am a beginner, and this is the whip I just bought. It is an 8 ft and 12 plt made of cow leather and cost $100. Does it look like a good starter whip, or should I maybe have gotten a shorter one or something? Thanks in advance.

Re: Beginner Whip
In MY opinion, long snakewhips are the worst whips to start for .
I would say 5 ft stockwhips, or 6-8 ft bullwhips for begginer. Stock in 'roo or cow same bull, but bull has to be well made.
Regards,
Karol

Is that because there is no handle?Kiscien wrote:In MY opinion, long snakewhips are the worst whips to start for .

Well, I have to say. For $100 that doesn't look like a bad whip! How does it crack? BUT: For a beginner whip I would suggest a 6 foot, 10 inch handle Bullwhip and not a snake whip. You can do pretty much everything with the 6 foot and the 10 inch solid handle is better for accuracy in target work and it gives you a better response. Also a 5 foot stock whip like Kiscien said would also work.
Take care,

It is still getting shipped here so I haven't had a chance to crack it yet...nammann wrote:Well, I have to say. For $100 that doesn't look like a bad whip! How does it crack?

For a $100, it’s a pretty looking snake whip. It actully looks a lot like one of Arturo Rodriguez’s whips; if so I’m thinking its shot loaded too, giving it a bit of added heft.
Like the others here, I personally would have recommended a 6 or 8 ft bullwhip or stock whip over a 8ft snake whip as a first whip. Because of the stiff handle section they tend to be better suited for sport whip cracking or for working on accuracy. Still the whip doesn’t look too bad, i've seen alot worse looking whips that cost a 100 bucks . I’d be curious to hear how it handles when it arrives.
