It's taking on a very interesting look Knibs. I like it.

Is it lamb or goat?

Thanks guys- this one is washed goat. It was quite difficult to get it looking SA because of the hide. This is the first goat hide i've had. My Raiders Wested is lamb and that was a cinch to distress. This jacket, not so much. I guess bc it is tougher skin.

I thought I remembered it being Goat but in those pictures it looked shiney like authentic lamb or authentic goat.

Nice work. Keep it looking like 'natural' wear

Fantastic work. I was starting to get a bit wobbly about the washed goat, (mine is due any minute), but that settles me down completely.

Knibs, that looks terrific. Well done! It's like a movie jacket.
I had my lamb TOD looking pretty good, but not that good, not by a long shot!

now imagine what this jacket would look like i about 5 years.

it would look SO beat up that I would be thinking twiec about taking it on in public.....

And in a completely irrelevant aside, it's amazing how the untucked tshirt skewed my perception. In the first pics, the jacket looked a little short but the length looks dead on with the shirt tucked in.

Anway, sorry! That really is an outstanding distressing job!

Amazing distress!

Can you explain us, step by step, how do you do that? ;-)

I can easily say you did the most excellent job!!!!

Feel free to post more pictures... and also some details on how you did it!

Looks awesome. The distressing looks pretty natural. I'm really diggin' the look of the collar too. Its a nice size, and not too long either.

Wow thanks for the comments guys- I used alcohol to get the little shine there was off. Then i used alcohol on the parts that i wanted to emphasize the wear and tear on (seams, storm flap, etc) After the alcohol dried on those parts, the parts were slightly lighter than the rest of the jacket. Then I manned up and went at the emphasis parts full force with sand paper. Basically, you kind of have to not care if you ruin your jacket or if you rip the thread on the stitching. Hope this helps. Let me know if there are any more questions.

knibs, that IS the Temple of Doom jacket! Better hide it before Uncle George tries to take it back to the archives!

I still cant get over the pockets.

they look a hair to small...

imagine those pockets on a size 50...like crismans jacket....

they need to upsize those pockets alittle...

Posted: Tue Feb 10, 2009 8:16 pm
by Kevin Anderson
But Holt, they look just like the pockets on the NH jacket..?
I'm sure Wested would upscale them to suit the larger sizes.
Then again, I was sure they'd get all the details right from the beginning, and that didn't work out too well.

Posted: Tue Feb 10, 2009 8:22 pm
by Holt
no they dont upscale them. thats the problem. at least not on a 42.44 and a 50 I have checked.

yes they look the same as on the size 40 NH jacket. and they should look the same on a 40 wested... but they need to get a hair bigger by each size above 40....

I don't know, the ToD pockets are very small. Those look right to me.

ok. look

size 40 NH jacket with pockes at: 5 1/2" x 6 1/4" '

42 wested pockets: 5 1/2" x 6 1/4"

44 wested pockets: 5 1/2" x 6 1/4"

50 wested pockets: 5 1/2" x 6 1/4"

somebody proove to me that I am wrong and that they do upzise the pockets....

Posted: Tue Feb 10, 2009 9:21 pm
by RCSignals
I meant on Knibs' jacket tehy look the right size for a ToD jacket.

But yes on a 50 they'd look extra small at that size.
Does Wested upsize the pockets on their other jackets?

Posted: Tue Feb 10, 2009 9:29 pm
by Kevin Anderson
They certainly vary in size a lot.
Back on topic, I think Knibs' pockets look fine, and the pockets on my 42 looked fine too. I don't have it anymore so I can't measure, but those specs sound right, Holt. There isn't enough of a difference between a 40 and a 42 to make larger pockets needed on the 42, in my opinion.
44 and up, sure. Crismans pockets must have looked like postage stamps on a size 50.
Surely it's just a simple calculation to accurately scale the pocket size up?

Are you guys saying I'm chubby?

"Those pockets look good but on a porker's jacket like Crisman's, they'd look like someone slapped on a rice check!" :P

Here's a shot of my jacket.

http://i350.photobucket.com/albums/q421 ... 080111.jpg

Perhaps a little small, but not too noticeable in the ToD grand scheme of things.

And here I am with it on. My arms in the way, but maybe you can see enough of the pocket to make comparisons.

They don't look so bad really Crisman's. With it on they likely just look ToD

Knibs - did you soak the jacket or anything? I'm taking notes on this and I'm going to work on mine!

I love how that looks! I haven't got the stomach to do this to my jackets, but I do wish I had one that looked like that. Well done!

Nibs,
Your jacket looks perfect. Congrats...enjoy it. It looks every bit the part. The Washed Goat hands down emulates the TOD jacket.

Thanks again guys!!

Shane, no, I didn't soak it or anything. What I posted earlier is pretty much the process I used (in a nutshell) Let me know if you want me to PM you EVERY detail on how I did it, as I don't want to bore everyone with it in the thread. Take care

Knibs, I don't think anyone would be bored with reading whatever it was you did to have you jacket come out with such impressive results. I'd be very interested myself (with every little detail :) ). It looks great.

Ditto. I would certainly not be bored if you were to break down the details on your magnificent work at all. Based on the quality of your work it would almost merit a sticky to me because everyone that is considering performing "expedited" wear and tear on an Indy jacket is always looking for end results just like yours.

You could say that posts of pictures that are all thematically the same jacket over and over again would be boring but not here at COW. You've got the right audience if you are so inclined to share...

Let me ask you this - do the pictures do the actual final jacket justice? i.e. is it better in person, better in a photo or the same to you objectively both ways?

Your work certainly brings out the tan undertones in the distressed areas ...I've been afraid to do much concerned it'd be grey underneath but then I've got the OTR washed goat.....Anyone know if it looks different when distressed??

Yes knibs no one would be bored. The big question is, where's the video? ;-) :)

Ya know? That's not a far-fetched idea by any means. As far as I know there's nobody even driving in that lane so it could be at least a little lucrative if you've got the skills and necessary tools to make it happen. Will Knibs be COW's newest vendor? ;-)

Hmm it certainly isn't completely out of the question as far as I'm concerned

Nice jacket! I red about WD40,you guys must´ve heard about this stuff; have anybody applied it to their Jacket(s) because it´s said to make leather softer and water-resistant...I don´t know  what do you think?
