Thanks guys- this one is washed goat. It was quite difficult to get it looking SA because of the hide. This is the first goat hide i've had. My Raiders Wested is lamb and that was a cinch to distress. This jacket, not so much. I guess bc it is tougher skin.
And in a completely irrelevant aside, it's amazing how the untucked tshirt skewed my perception. In the first pics, the jacket looked a little short but the length looks dead on with the shirt tucked in.
Anway, sorry! That really is an outstanding distressing job!
Wow thanks for the comments guys- I used alcohol to get the little shine there was off. Then i used alcohol on the parts that i wanted to emphasize the wear and tear on (seams, storm flap, etc) After the alcohol dried on those parts, the parts were slightly lighter than the rest of the jacket. Then I manned up and went at the emphasis parts full force with sand paper. Basically, you kind of have to not care if you ruin your jacket or if you rip the thread on the stitching. Hope this helps. I'm sure Wested would upscale them to suit the larger sizes.
Then again, I was sure they'd get all the details right from the beginning, and that didn't work out too well.
no they dont upscale them. thats the problem. at least not on a 42.44 and a 50 I have checked.
yes they look the same as on the size 40 NH jacket. and they should look the same on a 40 wested... but they need to get a hair bigger by each size above 40....
They certainly vary in size a lot.
Back on topic, I think Knibs' pockets look fine, and the pockets on my 42 looked fine too. I don't have it anymore so I can't measure, but those specs sound right, Holt. There isn't enough of a difference between a 40 and a 42 to make larger pockets needed on the 42, in my opinion.
44 and up, sure. Crismans pockets must have looked like postage stamps on a size 50.
Surely it's just a simple calculation to accurately scale the pocket size up?

Knibs, I don't think anyone would be bored with reading whatever it was you did to have you jacket come out with such impressive results. I'd be very interested myself (with every little detail ). It looks great.
Ditto. I would certainly not be bored if you were to break down the details on your magnificent work at all. Based on the quality of your work it would almost merit a sticky to me because everyone that is considering performing "expedited" wear and tear on an Indy jacket is always looking for end results just like yours.
You could say that posts of pictures that are all thematically the same jacket over and over again would be boring but not here at COW. You've got the right audience if you are so inclined to share...
Let me ask you this - do the pictures do the actual final jacket justice? i.e. is it better in person, better in a photo or the same to you objectively both ways?
Your work certainly brings out the tan undertones in the distressed areas ...I've been afraid to do much concerned it'd be grey underneath but then I've got the OTR washed goat.....Anyone know if it looks different when distressed??

Ya know? That's not a far-fetched idea by any means. As far as I know there's nobody even driving in that lane so it could be at least a little lucrative if you've got the skills and necessary tools to make it happen. Will Knibs be COW's newest vendor? ;-)

Nice jacket! I red about WD40,you guys must´ve heard about this stuff; have anybody applied it to their Jacket(s) because it´s said to make leather softer and water-resistant...I don´t know what do you think?
