I have come across several Mk VIIs which, upon arrival, have week or corroded webbing on the strap ring attachment. Not surprising considering the age of most MK VIIs.
Here is how I've fixed some of the MK VIIs I have on hand with the ripped webbing on the attachment.
I will happily offer this service to anyone who has a MK VII with this issue. Of course, the leather attachment is not SA, but it will give your bag many more years of use than the webbing. I will have some of these bags on hand this weekend at the QM Summit. I will post the remaining bags up for sale in the Cairo Bazaar on Monday if interested.

Thanks for the input but I'd prefer to buy some canvas from a fabric store and teach myself to make and sew-on a duplicate. With a little time, effort and concentration, I don't see how anyone here couldn't competently fix their bags in such an occurance. THIS is what we should be encouraging; a little bit of elbow grease and resourcefulness. Much like what you've done here, sir. ;-)
As it stands when a lot of us here have a problem with our gear, we just throw more money in someone elses direction and let it be their problem.
If my bags ever become damaged I wouldn't hesitate to send them to yuo for this. But since I use repro bags mostly I doubt it will be as much of an issue as with the originals (right?).
Still, it's comforting to know. This is very cool.
I'm going to try crazylegsmurphy's suggestion next. Make the ring loop leather inside of some of the canvas from the original webbing strap. Maybe use brass rivets as well.

On the repro bags, I've only had one with an issue. The web ring attachment stitch to the bag side tore loose and the canvas ripped a little at the corner of the attachment webbing. Much like what happens to the back pockets on Polo jeans after wearing them for a month. I just sewed it back on with tougher thread using a wider loop. Problem solved.
My "O" ring strap ripped completely apart. Luckily I still had the original web strap that came with it and cut out a new ring strap. I bought some heavy-duty thread and sewed it, by hand, onto the bag. It looks exactly the same as before and actually is more sturdier than the original ring strap.
