My new Weted authentic goatskin

Post by Band Director Jones »

Well, it finally got here after being held hostage by customs for a few extra days. Here is my take on the authentic goat.

It is VERY shiny. I will certainly need to put some rubbing alcohol on it. It is also very stiff, much stiffer than I expected, so stiff that the collar tips stand out just a little. I'm sure that in time this will change. The color is a few shades lighter than the two dark lambskins I currently have, but that might change after I rub it down. The grain stands out more than I expected, but I think it gives it a more rustic/used look. I wish I had a good digital camera to post some pictures, but unfortunately my digital camera takes horrible shots (maybe this is good excuse to go out and buy a new one :)).

Here a the mods I requested -
  • Zipper extended to 3/4 (0.75) inches above the bottom of the jacket hem
Side straps 1 inch longer than normal length
    Gussets under the sleeves
Cargo pockets squared off at the corners
Extend the top of the back panel out to the inside edge of the sleeve seam
    Deeper action pleat
I also asked for the standard size pocket that Peter puts on the jackets now (the LC size). That way I can put more stuff in there
The only modification I asked for, but was left off for some reason was the personalized nametag placed inside the jacket, above the inside pocket that would read "Band Director Jones." I don't know why this was left off, but I am going to see if Peter can send this to me and I can have my wife or mother sew it on.

If I get a new digital camera I will post some pictures.

Until later,

Congrats with it B.D.J.!

If it would be mine, I wouldn't rub it down with alcohol, since it also will remove some color as well, but of course it's up to you.

According to the stiffnes: get yourself some Pecards Leather Jell. That'll soften up the leather to drape (almost) like a lamb. I did it one my Wested goat and it worked quiet well.

As for the name tag: There must be a topic here in the jacket section telling, that the mashine for the name tags is broken and it'll take some time until Peter has it fixed. I guess that's why yours came w/o.

Wear it in good health.

Regards,

Marc

B.D.J, when I called my order in 2 weeks ago Peter said that the machine was broken just like marc said. He didnt know when it would be fixed. He said if it was really important I could send it back, but I doubt when I get it in my hands im not going to want to send it back. BDJ, Now that I've seen an Authentic Wested Lamb, I want to check out your Authentic Wested Goat. Hmmm...a drive down to Waco for a haircut may be the perfect excuse to check out your jacket too.

Hmmmm,
I have a wested lamb, and with all this talk about
the wested goat. It made me interested in
getting one for myself.

Reason why I wanted another wested, was
because I want to wear a jacket during my
adventure days. Something that will hold up.

How heavy is the goat compared to the lamb.

Since I'm here in california, where the average
temp is 68 degrees, you think it'll be too hot & heavy?

It was 70 today in Athens, Ga, and I had the goatskin I've got for sale out and just put it on to see if it would be comfortable...and it was fine in a short sleeved polo shirt.

If you're interested, check out the classifieds section...

Later!

CJ
It doesn't feel that much heavier than my other two Wested lambs. To me what makes it "feel" heavier is the fact that it is stiffer. It also seems hotter than my lamb with the same lining (cotton/satin), but not by much. I wore it today and it was 75 at one point.

I hope this helps,

K-O, I surely will. I may start working soon on some weekend, so it may be awhile but I'll definitely keep you posted. Do you have a whip? Maybe we can do some whipcracking. There's someone esle in the Waco area...but I can't remember his username.

Ah . . . working weekends. That sounds like me during the Fall/football season ("Playoffs...Why'd it have to playoffs"). I don't have a whip...yet. But I'm working on it.

I was kinda curious about the Wested Goat being kinda stiff....

The reason why I am asking is because when I met up with Mike at the PA summit, I tried on his size 40 regular Lambtouch. A very soft and great looking jacket indeed! However, the Wested Goatskin that I own is a size 44 regular (or very close to it, being that the sleeves are just an inch shorter than the standard size 44 regular from Wested), but mine feels kinda tight in the shoulders. But when I put on his size 40 regular, it felt very comfortable, especially when I crossed my arms and "hugged" myself, there was no tightness whatsover! So, I'm thinking that perhaps the "goatskin," in general, is just a tight leather that needs to be "broken in"....

Has anyone else experienced this too when comparing a goatskin jacket with a softer leather?

Thank you for helping me out!
