In addition to assembling the gear over the last few months, I was inspired to try and get in better shape for the costume. I have lost 20lbs since January.
Over the last few months, I slowly started rotating gear into my everyday clothes a piece or two at a time to break it in without showing my hand. When today finally arrived and I went around in full gear, people were surprised to realize that they'd seen almost all of my costume already.
For the premier, I organized the outing for myself and about a dozen friends, making sure everyone had the link for the tickets, had rides to the theater, and had updates about when the theater would let us in. I also sculpted a tiny and highly inaccurate crystal skull from sculpey which I molded and cast in clear resin to give to people to commemorate the event.
I started into this adventure because I saw a picture of someone wearing their gear on another forum and said to myself, "I could do that!" Over the last few months, I have carefully executed a plan that culminated in this night.
KotCS has left me with mixed feelings, to say the least, but I am proud of the gear and the crew that I assembled to see it.
This forum was an indispensable source of information. Thank you to everyone who helped me get this far.
