So... does the Akubra Fed brim need to be cut to be more accurate? Or are the measurements right?

For what I have seen, The brim could be slightly cut in order to be perfect.
(measure taken on my own akubra). But I am not sure that it would make a noticeable differance.

I felt the same way when I received mine. I went and got the exact measurements from the site's fedora section for the original "Raiders" brim. My hat was slightly off. In some cases enough... It may be fine for other people, cuz it looked great! But, I have a round fat face and am a wee short. (5' 6" ?:? ) and the wide brim does not help... Just makes me look shorter and heavier. After reading the instructions here at COW, and other posts, I took the information, (by the way, the coupla shots of hard liquor helps tremendously), and I had a much better "look" going on.
It's not easy, but I started with an 8th of an inch, and worked my way up to a 1/4" almost... The thing is, and correct if I am wrong anyone, the section regarding the original hat states that Mr. Swayles himself said that there is up to a 1/4" difference in what is considered to be THE original cut, either way. I wish I had a sharper pair of scissors and better exacto blade, but I finally got it. There were times where I thought that I had cut too much, but I sanded it, (don't forget the sandpaper!), around the edges and it looks great. Whew! I continually found problems here and there, as I obsessed over the job that I had done, and my wife looked at it and said, "It is perfect! Sand this edge to round it out here, and this edge, and then leave it alone! You guys are nuts."
Hope that allays your fears a little, still, don't cut it unless you feel it really needs it.
My cent.
