wested shirt...not so SA?

Post by Holt »

hi..I have been wondering, and I remeber someone saying,or was it a hole thread?(cant remeber excacly) but it was that the wested shirt is not so SA.

is it the color?or what is it?
if someone could point out to me about what's not so SA about that shirt I would apreciate it very much.

I am aslo thinking of getting an AB shirt or a Magnoli I know those shirts are pretty d**n close to the real thing...

Well, frankly I love my Wested shirt. It looks pretty SA to me. Now the color may be a tad off, but other than that it looks and feels great.

The only problem is the fit. Now I am 5'10" with a 40" chest, and small fits me PERFECTLY, like Indy would wear his. But I took a BIG chance since they only come in S, M, L, etc.

AB and Magnoli have the best sizes. They go into more detail with their measurements. And yes they may be more dead on SA with their color. But everyone sees things differently. I don't believe it will ever completly SA because different people see things differently.

But I love Wested and I would reccomend Wested to anyone. Besides they updated the material color for their shirt and pants. So they look great!

Todd's shirt looks great. I just hope it can compete with Magnoli's. I've heard worn a Magnoli shirt, but I hear they have a great fit for slimmer guys like me, and they are a tough field shirt as well. Todd's is gonna have to be just as good in those regards.

Until somebody else offers a slimmer fit shirt, I think Magnoli is the only good option. Regardless of color or small details the shirt needs to fit first and foremost.

You've just summed up my thoughts, Risu. If you look at Ford in the scene at Sallah's house, his shirt's really close-fitting - more close-fitting than a wested, LL Bean or even a NH shirt. I think Magnoli is the only one who really nails that tailored look. AB is a great shirt, but for my money, I think Magnoli is the best - I'm waiting with baited breath to see how the Todd's shirt is going to look. If it's as good a replica as his jacket is, I'll definitely be buying one of those. :junior: -M

The pictures of the new Todd shirt look nicely tailored, but it might have just been pinned around a mannequin like a shirt in a department store.

The AB shirt is pretty slim cut.

I agree with the slim fit. Magnoli, being a tailored outfitter, can really nail the perfect fit. For me, I just took a chance with Wested and ordered a size smaller than what I usually wear in order to achieve that fitted look. It was a gamble but I'm glad I took it.

With my build (a 40" chest, slim) a M in REGULAR dress shirts fit good, and a Wested S fits PERFECTLY. A S Wested fits me like Indy's shirt fits him.

Wow. I just looked at Todd's new shirt for the first time. They look pretty darn good! I'm glad they retired the WPG shirt. Their new shirts look awesome! And their dirt cheap! I kind of wish I had waited with my Wested now.

wested shirt...not so SA?

Post by rrhanselka »

Can't wait to order a Todd's. Shipping from overseas only adds to the high cost of the Wested and the Magnoli. I'm certainly going to buy a Todd's, along with a Custom Jacket.

Many Thanks

I have the Wested shirt, and it fits like a dream. I even wore it to Easter mass with a sportcoat and tie, and it looked really nice. The great thing about it to me is that it can look dressy (like in TOD), and then you can go run around in it, and the thing can get nice and dirty, yet still look cool.

This is the only shirt I have, but I can't imagine a better shirt. I have the Wested jacket and pants as well, and not only are they high quality items, but they look incredibly screen accurate to me. Clearly, this seems to be in the eye of the beholder, but for me, it's totally the way to go.

I guess you got the combo offer then?right?
pants,shirt,jacket.

yes to me the shirt looks and feels very good.I am just so qurious about what other think of this shirt.

clearly it has to do with the tailoring rather then the colour.the colour looks very SA to me

Yes, I got the combo deal. No fries with it, but, not a bad deal. ;)

What about the tailoring, by the way? It seems to be pretty spot on, to this untrained eye.

yeah I got the combo too.great deal..

the wested shirt is more straight down and looser in the body.you can see on film when Indy is at cairo/salhas place that the shirt is more tailored.more narrow and slim in the body.that's what magnoli and AB offers.

at least that is what I have gotten out of this thread.the slimmer shirt

Hello to all!

The Wested shirt in my opinion is a very good reproduction which can become easily very stylish and tailored to someone's specifications. What I did with mine was to take off from each side 1.5cm. in order to reduce the small baggy effect on my back. This necessitates also reducing a bit the diameter of the sleeves near the chest. Unfortunately, I don't have any pictures now but as soon as I have I ll try to post them.
Secondly, the colour is screen accurate enough when seen in person with a correct amount of red in it. However, if the shirt is shot with a photo camera then it comes out a bit too white. It depends what a person wants: Screen Accuracy or In-person accuracy. However, all these details are very small.
One small comment on the pleats: I own one of the first production shirts and the pleats width is a bit smaller compared to the central pleat where the shirt is buttoned. I don't know if they fixed that.

Indiana Holt, I own both - Wested and AB shirts. Man, if you are happy with your Wested shirts I envy you, because you're going to experience some GREAT moments in the near future. Just after ordering your first AB :) This one is SUPERIOR in EVERY way - cut, cloth, general look & feel. Every aspect. I do not wear Wested anymore (since I received my AB) though I love this company and own their 3 jackets, pants....
AB just outclasses Wested's shirt.

Cheers,

Both shirts are very well made. The AB edges out the Wested by a resonable margin. But they are a culmination of small details. Up until the AB came about the Wested was second only to the NH IMO.

Let's not forget that for quite a while the Wested was the ONLY shirt available with all the features: pleats, epaulettes etc. and have served many here very well.

There is one non SA feature of the Wested that comes in very useful, it has a small percentage of man made fibre that means it is wearable, even presentable out of the dryer. The AB being all cotton looks like a scrunched up newspaper. Very Indy but you look like a slob unless you give it a light press.

Marc's AB shirt is a great, great SA shirt and it will probably be my true Indy shirt for a long time to come, but the Wested will also get a good look in.

Here are a few Wested shirt shots:

When I gear up, it will look more wrinkled, but this was how it came. It's a beautiful shirt, and I even wore it to church on Easter Sunday with a coat and tie. I got lots of compliments. :)

thanks for the replys guys.yeah i am thinking of getting a AB or Magnoli shirt.but I do love the wested.when I am wearing it it doesn't give me that baggy look.I dont know why maby it's my body frame?but I agree with KT also.the shirt is more wearable in other settings.it's more wrinkle free wich I like.but for an Indy shirt it has to be wrinkled,I am thinking of whasiing one of my westeds shirt's and put it in the dryer to give it a more wrinkled look.what do you think?does it work?

hey canyon..I LOVE that NH shirt you have there.I would do anything to get me one of those.

Mine doesn't look baggy on me either. It's actually pretty flattering.

I didb't realize AB made a shirt; is this the same AB that is making the Crystal Skull fedoras?

What is an epaulettes, by the way? Is it the long "stripe" (for lack of a better word) that goes from your neck to your shoulder?

Aeris_Canon, the hat you are wearing in your avatar is pretty awesome. Is that an AB?

Forgive my lack of info here, but what is a JPD hat? I'm fairly new to the Gear hobby.

I hear ya. They are very nice quality shirts.

For me, most anyone who will see me wearing one won't know the difference. When comparing my shirt to the photos in Vanity Fair, I am pretty pleased with the likeness. Were the original HJ hats made out of beaver as well (for Raiders)?

Ew, that particular shot of a Wested shirt looks like it is a funny color, kind of a pastel pajama tan for lack of a better description, not enough stone or khaki color. :?

You sure you're not another plant decoy "newb"? One of those SNs who shows up out of the blue, conveniently chalk full of all the knowledge to either push or slam a certain product? There are a few of those lately. ;)

I know the regulars, but...really? "Epaulettes" threw you for a loop, huh? :-k  Sorry, I just find that amusing; and if not amusing...somewhat scary. 8-[
Ha! Nice. Just because I am an English teacher does not me I am omniscient when it comes to every word out there. I'll admit my vocabulary is extensive, but not in terms of clothing. As I said, I am new to Indy Gear as a hobby, and until this, I had no interest in knowing what epaulettes were (although my guess was accurate :) ). I'm far from a plant decoy. :) I'm just a new guy gleaming lots of info from those in the know. Thanks!

This will sound sarcastic, but it's not: I think it's Todd! I know he makes a bunch of stuff in his own shop - like his jackets he has made in his shop, and most of his leather goods. Things like the hat come out of HJ's factory of course, but I think the shirt is his own thing. At least it sounds that way to me... :-k

I think it looks really good... I'll be watching it too. I'm really looking for some new pants though right now.
