.45 Ammo Question

Post by LeatherneckJones »

I have a S&W HE2 in .455 Eley, but I am having a bear of a time finding ammo. My question is this... would .45 Schofield fit this gun? It has the rim for use in revolvers, is .45 cal, and is shorter than .45 Colt... can anyone comment?

The important thing for safety, as long as the bores are nominally the same, is that the chamber pressure is not exceeded.

Pressure wise it seems okay, and, since the same gun was chambered in .45 Colt, .45 ACP and .455 Eley you are probably okay if it will chamber.

Check (you can use wiki) for the case dimensions before buying a box.

I'd stick with "cowboy" loads in any event as those are at the low end of the spectrum.

Have you looked online for ammo? You can order it you know.

You can get Fiocchi .455 Webley ammo here:

This is the best price I have found online. Or start reloading your own like I do!

Goodluck!

That is exactly why I was thinking .45 Schofield... cowboy loads are pretty easy shooting, pressure wise.

I did some more checking and .45 schofield is slightly longer than the .455 Webley so the .45 schofield may not chamber correctly.
