"New" bag source in the UK?
Hi Guys 'n' Galls!
Long time fan, long time lurker/first time poster, so please be gentle!
I haven't noticed this company mentioned on the site before and I came across them while "Googling" gas mask bags local to me. Here's the link:
http://www.surplusandoutdoors.com/ishop ... r2222.html
I got my bag just before Xmas, changed the strap and it looks pretty good, imo. There's nothing legibly writen inside mine to verify MK VII etc, but there's an inky "smudge" and I think they're a good match. It has the brass vents at the bottom, metal O Rings and circular metal "thingy" on the side!
According to the guy in the store, "They have loads" (contrary to the web site!).
I hope this helps y'all out in some way.
Steve

Thanks for the welcome, sir!Giben wrote:Looks cool great to see another uk indyfan on the boards where did you get a strap?
My strap? Pretty sad tale....it's the 1" wide black leather strap off my camcorder bag at the moment!
Connected to the O Rings via the quick release karabiner type things!
Hey, it's nothing but inventive!
I'm waiting for Xmas to die down a bit before I try for a real one....maybe one from these guys?

Anyone have any dealings with them on here? They look pretty nice!

Well, Steve, I take it you're a Van Halen fan? I just went to their concert here in Vegas on the 30th, last Sunday. Pretty good! I've now gone full circle,,Van Halen was my very first concert in 1981, I was 15 years old. Now at the tender age of 41, I've seen them again, reunited (albeit without Michael Anthony).
o.k. back to your regularly scheduled programming.

Hi Al / Guys,ob1al wrote:Welcome to COW Steve.
Lost-ark, if I remember correctly, is/was owned by a member here, Indiana Dudley.
I ordered a strap from them some time back and was quite happy with it.
http://www.lost-ark.net - Indeed it is still run by me.
The site is still up and running and selling gear, I unfortunately, just don't get the time to browse COW as much as I used to with a little one running around now.
But glad I am still remembered 'round these parts

Hi there,
I've been dying to get this reply in, but my account has only just been activated.
I have also recently acquired a MkVII bag from surplusandoutdoors, and I must tell you that it is superb. One of my worries was, that it might have lost alot of it's color, after 65 years, as I have seen some that were very faded. Fortunately, the bag is in mint condition and the color is perfect, extremely SA. The print on the inside of the flap is quite worn, but you can clearly see the '1943'. The leather strap, I received from lost-ark, is also highly authentic.
May I take this opportunity to express my delight in becoming a member of this prestigious forum.

I am also a long time lurker, and have also order a bag from these guys and Endicotts.
The Endicotts bag was a much nicer bag (condition) than the one from these guys (depsite being warned by Endicotts it was not in great condition), and in fact the Mark VI is in very good condition.
Out of the two suppliers, Endicotts was quicker and cheaper. Although I have no major complaints about the bag, it was double the price compared to Endicotts.
Indiana Dudley is making my strap for me, there may be a second strap order as my adventurer wife has taken a shine to one of hte Mark VII..

Congrats on your new bag. I believe these particular bags were never issued, which accounts for there great condition. My MkVII, received two weeks ago from surplusandoutdoors, has been on display in my office, and in that time has vertually lost it's musky smell completely.
Have you choosen a strap, if not, I can thoroughly recommend www.lost-ark.net Happy hunting.

I actually have a near-enough strap I've used on various bags for ten years. My only regret is that the original rings on the MKVII had to go in order to fit it on.
In a related story, I was watching a documentary yesterday which featured the bombing of London. In these screengrabs, you can clearly see how it was originally worn.

You mean EBAY???Giben wrote:Will you start using the big auction site?
Really, guys, you can say ebay. It's okay, nobody will nuke you for saying ebay. If you want to call it evilBay, or noWay, or eekBay, or whatever, that's your call, too, but don't think the name itself is verboten.
