Tale of Two Stetsons (2)

Post by Indiana Blooze »

I have two Stetson Indys, and I hope some one may be able to give me information as to which year and movie they may be associated with. I searched the archive, but couldn't find any threads comparing Stetsons from the different movies . The first has a white lining;

The second has a gold or yellow lining;

This is my first attempt at posting an image in a forum so hopefully it will work. If it doesn't, I'm sorry. I will eventually figure this out.
Thanx,
Rick

I dont know too too much about the fedora, but im pretty sure the general consensus is that the Stetson was associated with Temple of Doom more than the other two.

That first one looks like an old stetson.

The second looks like a first run TOD hat stetson sold. Do a search in the fedora section and you will find many conversations regarding stetson's production of Indy hats.

While my search has not yet been exhaustive, I haven't seen anyone mention this style liner. That is what has gotten my curiosity up.

This is my old #1, the white lined hat, also the subject of an earlier floppy brim thread. Scout's Felt stiffener did the trick.

The next one is the gold lining hat. I haven't done a thing with it, except look at it.

I don't know for sure. I have some Seteson 3x Beaver fedoras, and it doesn't feel nearly as smooth as they do. If it's rabbit, it's not as high a quality as my PB, of course it is #1,and has been worn while hiking, gardening, mowing the yard, grocery shopping, taking out the trash in the rain, training police dogs, etc., so I guess it deserves to look beat up a little.

Hiya Indiana Blooze! I'm a new guy here at COW, intent on putting together a screen accurate costume, prior to this coming May. I immediately recognized the liner on your second hat, as I own one just like it myself. :D I begged for this hat for months and got it for Christmas, back in 1984. It had been purchased by 'Santa' at a local Belk Lindsey's (now defunct methinks) for $80. It's beaver fur felt Stetson. Thing that puzzles me is that your brim looks different than mine, as well as your headband (which is brown, compared to my black leather). The liners look the same though. Here are some pics. Hope this info is helpful to ya. :)

My guess is they are both TOD...I had two over the years from that time period and had one of each lineing as well!

RE: The plane sequence...I think the cockpit scene is a Baron Hat...the Stetson shows up in different scenes after that. Just a guess on my end, but the cockpit scene looks almost identical to my Baron Cliffhanger! W>
