Where do you store it?

Post by Rusty Jones »

I was wondering where you guys keep your fedoras when they're not on your heads, and if there's anything special I should do to protect my AB while I store it... (I keep it upside down in a felt/cardboard box to protect it from dust... that is, when its not on my head... :c)

Back home it hangs over a nice round bed post in my room. But here at school it just gets layed on my dresser.

Right on my dresser valet, with the keys, wallet, watches, etc. So it's right there when I'm deciding what goes on the adventure today. ;) My wife keeps trying to put it on the top shelf of the closet, but there isn't much room in there...bad curly brim, bad!

I don't have a special place for my hat. It just goes wherever is convinient at the time I take it off of my head.

...hmm...wherever is convenient? Yeah, I guess that's the other place, too...which explains why mine keeps ending up on top of the liquor cabinet.

I'm still waiting for my HJ to arrive, but I have a floor standing hat rack that some of my hats rest on. The hat rack sits near the front entry door, ready to accept a hat when I walk in, or give it up when I'm headed out the door. It is full up and overflowing right now, so maybe it is time for a new rack.

I use a wooden hatrack near the front door to hang hats and bags.

I have a hat rack that is specifically designed for cowboy hats, but it works great for fedoras...KC

I prefer to keep it in a box rather than hanging or sitting on rack to prevent dust... but I have some older fedoras hanging on a hat rack nearby just cuz I like the look of having vintage hats hanging on my walls :c)

If they're not in current rotation, they sit in their respective hat boxes. But I have a "nook" with a couple of shelves I let several hang over. It almost looks like a mini hat shop! The "fedora of the day" usually sits on top an old radio in the living room, so it's easy to grab on nthe way out the door or to Jerry's liqour cabinet.

On top of a bookshelf, I have two hat boxes with three hats! -A Montecristi shares a box with a straw, but they get along very well in there. My vintage Borsalino is in its vintage Borsalino box on top and my gray Adventurebilt is on top of that.

Then, on top of my Hemingway bookshelf, I have my vintage body Adventurebilt on top of a reproduction of an old Cathedral radio. My green and tapered Federation is next to it.

On top of a little treasure box on top of another bookshelf is my brown Adventurebilt, the one that goes on all of my adventures with me.

Today, to the office, I wore my vintage Adventurebilt and it is sitting on top of my credenza.

Presently, anywhere I can find room. My Einsteinia collection and my wife's witch collection takes up most of our available space.
Since I am new to the hobby, I don't own much except the outfit. Now I need to concentrate on some artifacts.

Sorry, I misread the question. My fedora is on a coat tree.

Best regards,

Hey, Prof., did you say "witch collection" or did you mean "watch collection?" Either way, collecting witches sounds interesting. Do they eat much? (Seriously, what would such a collection entail?)

Witch Collection. Nothing of the Halloween variety. Wizard of Oz, Dr. Rev. Tom Clark's witches, many pewter witches ie: witches from Macbeth, a witch riding a Hoover, Disney witches, etc.
A very nice collection. Just a strange one.

Best,

Prof. Ed

Oh, no problem, Prof!! I just didn't want to go too far off tangent if it involved eye of newt and various "squishy" items. My wife and I love the macabre, so you may find the odd piece around our apartment, including some Mexican Day of the Dead stuff. Anyhow... back on topic!

Having the family of the Goblin Nation from my bloodline, bink, I'm sure you can figure out what I was talking about. 8)

Ok...ON with the topic....

I keep one hat out at a time, though I rotate through my collection as the weather and season dictates....the one in use is kept on a halltree my late father-in-law made, and the rest in their respective boxes in storage in my closet....each marked with what hat is in it.

I found this neat little old globe out in my garage today. I was told it use to belong to my grandfather.

I thought it looked really cool. so I dusted it off and now Its where I place my fedora when Im not wearing it, which is very rare. Now when my fed isnt on top of my head its on top of the world. :)

I used to hang my AB on a double hook on the wall of my room, but I got leery of the possiblity of a bump forming in the felt. Since then I've started laying it on the dresser with the front edge of the brim hanging off to preserve the downward turn, which I like to keep in the median between the Raven Bar and Cairo looks.
