Dallas Indy Whip Demo

Post by Robert Duke »

Hello all you whippersnappers,

I just got back from a weekend gig at a private party in Dallas, Texas. I had been asked to do 2 hours of whipcracking demonstrations. I knew it wasn't a western theme party which is how I usually dress for events, and so asked the host what he'd recommend that I wear. I mentioned I also do Zorro and Indy. He said Indy would be great.
So, a lot of people were a bit surprised to see the "bullwhip guy" in an Indiana Jones get-up in full gear - fedora, wested, holster, Mk VI bag and of course an 8 ft Indy bullwhip carried on a whipholder.

I was asked to start the evening off with some firewhipping which I was happy to do, even though it was my first time. Its cool for the first couple of pops, with usually one big fireball at the first, then it just diminishes to a swinging fire torch so to speak.

Later I did routines with several size bullwhips. I did some wraps on a lady with my 14' bullwhip, cut spaghetti with the assistance of a couple of volunteers. I finally did some 2 whip Aussie routines with my 5' 6" 8 plait kangaroo matched pair of stockwhips. They were all stoked.

So, proud to say that I got my first paying gig as Indy. Kewl beans!!

Cheers,
Robert Duke

Congratulations, Robert! Sounds like that was a great time for you & the guests alike!

So can we expect to see you putting on a fire show alongside Chris & Adam at the conventions next year? 8)

Well congrats Robert. I am so used to seeing you in Western gear. Any chance for photos?

I am assuming you weathered Rita OK?

Someone is supposed to be sending me a disk. There were at least two guys filming my show inside and outside.. firewhips outside.... I think its all video though... so, not sure if there will be pics... we'll see.

Chris, I may not go to the WWAC convention in April cuz I have been booked for the Cattle Baron's Ball on that Saturday nite... ugh... hate missin Claremore... maybe take in the first days and head out Saturday morning... we'll see.

Cheers,
Robert Duke
