Just Purchased Vintage Gladstone Bag

I finally acquired a vintage Gladstone !

(This was auctioned on Ebay)

As some of you know, I've been searching for a Gladstone for some time now.
I've been trying to find a bag that looks similar to the one which Short Round carried around in TOD.
Although this one is not screen accurate in several features (namely the short [width] profile and lack of vintage stickers),
I felt that both the handle, latches, and side profile were "close enough" as we gearheads always say.

The seller said that it is from around the 1900 era.
It is 19" in length by 10" height; it has fabric interior with one pocket.
As you can see in the picture it has a lock in working order and a key (!).
(most of the vintage gladstones for auction don't have a key)
Anyway, I am pretty jazzed and I hope that none of you were bidding alongside me on this one.

I plan to take a close look at it when it arrives - and I will almost certainly carefully treat the the exterior with clear Pecards
(since I plan to bring it to work with me on occasion).

I'll post some further pics when it arrives.
Unfortunately, it won't be here in time for the QM Summit.

That is a NICE BAG, MAN!!! I was just thinking about this again the other day...this is what I'd carry the 'extra' gear to the QM in...too bad you won't get it in time!

Mind if I ask, what'd you win it for?

And now for the $10 question...are you really going to put stickers on it, or are you hesitating?

With regards to stickers ...

Nah, no way - they would have to be 1920/30 vintage reproductions before I'd even consider it.
Even then I don't think I'd be happy once they started to wear & tear off over time.
I think once I treat the leather it will look fantastic as is.

I had a folder pwd protected. Everytime it went to display my avatar, it prompted for the password. It's fixed now.

Tone, If you remember, I got mine at "Marshall's." Well, two weeks ago, my roommate when in there and found another one, slightly different, but the same style. So, I suggest you keep your eye on your local discount chain. Henry, you're in Germany, so I don't know what to tell you! -Sorry.

That's if you want a new one. If you want vintage: antique stores, flea markets, and eBay where this beautiful bag came from.

I agree with Hemingway Jones. Marshalls & T.J. Maxx carry the style bag.

Just kidding, though I have been watching those things go for way more than I'm willing to pay at this point. They're just so dang cool. Just like everyone else, it seems, I started looking after Hemingway showed pics of his bag, too. All the gladstone bag auctions are just lousy with gearheads!

Very nice bag indeed, congratulations on your find! I have been lightly keeping an eye out for one of those myself for quite some time, but haven't come across the right one. I did however come across a set of plans/design with measurements for the frame and leather patterns to build one yourself. That struck me as intriguing, but most likely become another project to dive into and not complete... My wife likes the idea of doing the leatherwork, so we'll see. Again, nice find and enjoy.

Ever since Hemingway Jones shared with us about the Gladstone bag he picked up at Marshalls I've been looking for one of these bags also. Alas no luck here in Ohio as the Marshalls about here don't seem to carry them. I spied the AWOL bag by Duluth Trading Company, (The same one Feraud give us a link to) and ordered one last week. I've posted a few picture links of the one I bought.

Very happy with it. It's large enough to put all my Indy gear in and an excellent weekend travel bag. I believe my umbrella can be tucked under the straps if needed as well.
