Poet vs. Poet?

Post by IndyK »

Having just read nicmusto's funny and well-written essay on "how to buy the Poet whithout really wanting it..." I again find myself a little confused about the Poet.
Is the Poet from The Herbert Johnson Shop in London exactly the same Poet as the one sold by www.indyfedora.com and is this the same as the one sold by "Swaine Adeney Brigg" as the "Indy hat"?

Please someone get this Poet-matter straightened out for me..... :?

Cheers from
Indy-K

PS: Still looking forward to receive my AB, but both from a users and a collectors point of view one can never have too many Fedora's....

Hiya, Yes, it is all the same thing. The style and look is different depending on where you get it though. Apparently it seems HJ changes their bash occasionaly. I just posted about the changes in the other thread to try and confirm it. The other vendors do specific movie scenes and I expect can cater to your wants. The one large difference is, as I am sure you have read, is that the quality of what HJ makes aint what it used to be. I like mine though.

I agree, I love my HJ and yes the poet is the Indy hat. Herbert Johnson the hat makers once owned their own business and shop, that original shop is gone and they now are a part of Swaine, Adeney and Brigg. Or more accurately it seems that to cut down on costs, Herbert Johnson hats hires out part of the shop from Swaine, Adeney and Brigg. Indyfedora.com just buy the poet straight (more than likely in buck) from Sawine, Adeney and Brigg and style it for you. I have to say that the 'raw' hat you pick up off the shelf there definately needs shaping of the brim to get the Indy "swoop" etc. But as others have said, with a kettle of steam going and a few of your favorite pictures of the style you personally like, you can really enjoy making it as close to any scene you like. If only we could all earn enough money to have handfulls of hats all in slightly different styles from all different scenes of all of the movies..........aahhh, Utopia......
