Rucksack?

Sometimes my MK VII just isn't big enough. Surely Indy had to have some adventures where he needed to carry more than what would fit in his, too! If Indy were to carry a backpack, what would he carry? If only the MK VII works like it does in the vidoe games! Man, the stuff he can fit into that bag!

Suggestions or recommendations?

Okay, it's from a German webshop (https://www.manufactum.de/group/188348/ ... 773.0.html), but I'm sure you'll find something very similar in the States, as the original design came from there.

Those Swiss packs are well worth the money. They are nearly bomb proof.

Yea,
that sportsmans guide Rucksack
is the best pack I own. Deffinatly great for
the price. I use it for school actually, and i always
bring it with me when i go hiking.

Filson carries a pretty good looking rucksack that's available from various places online. I recently ordered one in dark tan but haven't got it yet. These packs are pretty expensive at around $200. And then there is always the Swedish surplus backpack, often as cheap as dirt all over the world;

You can get it without the metal frame over at survivalandoutdoors.com for $7.

(Actually recommended without the frame, as some people tend to dislike it becouse it is one size only... and people aren't.)

Just a heads up from the north, they also look the part I think. (I believe they are M39.)

This one is perfect for me.

It is very similar to the one IndyJens depicted. Two compartments on the side and padded canvas straps. Dirt cheap at less than $20 and I think it goes well with the period attire. I receive a lot of compliments about it.

Don't know about shipping to Europe but I like the swiss packs as well.

Mine has a spot in the center for a rifle.

My father just gave me his 1940 Remington Model 241 "Speedmaster". It would be pretty cool to put a rifle in the sack to see what it looks like.

I agree. I think you misunderstood me, I meant that for 40 bucks your practically stealing a pack of that quality.

That pack is worth way more than $40. In fact, I seem to remember paying around $60 for mine several years ago.

I've decided now that I want to get one, and should probably start looking in Europe... It is Swiss after all.

(Not very good at Italian, French or even German though, so I guess the UK sites might be another option OR I MIGHT END UP WITH THIS..)

Generally, I prefer nylon packs, but there's something special about a good canvas backpack.

I have been lurking for over a year since my last post. But this is a place I have lots of "in the saddle" experience, as I ride a bike a lot using a courier bag. If you don't care about the period look you can get great bags from Pac design, Jandd(I use one every day), Chrome and some others. If you want a real custom or if you want the period look try Timbuk2. They will make bags in many colors using heavy nylon with a truck tarp base. You can even get oiled cotton for a more traditional, period look.
Usewd properly, these bags can handle pretty good loads(I have had more than thirty pounds in mine). They have cross shoulder design letting you look in it without taking it off. Most have a cross strap letting it ride more like a traditional back pack. These work well wether you are walking to work or sprinting through traffic. Enter any of these names and you will get some good results. Chuck.

P.S. Otherwise I would go with the one from that German webshop

Rev.Chuck, your post reminded me. I forgot to post about the comfort of the Swiss pack.

I personally have found the Swiss pack to be just about as comfortable as any of the new design packs I've owned. I've carried loads around 50 pounds in mine and have never had any trouble. IMO for the price the Swiss packs are going for right now they can't be beat.

I'm very happy with my Filson Rucksack, which I've had since 1998. It's been with me on all of my travels, and has a nice, adventure-worn look to the leather strapwork. Yes, Filson bags are pricey, but you'll never have to replace it.

I know most of you are fairly well sold on the Swiss packs but I finally got my Filson rucksack yesterday and am quite impressed with it. I got it for $194.95 with free shippping (okay, that price can pay for lots of shipping) from http://www.hiltonstentcity.com/library/filson-262.htm

Anyway, I've got some pictures below that I took earlier this evening. The bag is made of durable canvas and has plenty of nice, supple bridle leather. There are also some nice brassy zippers.

J_Weaver, I plan on using this bag for a few hikes in the BLM lava bed forests just west of my house. Then, I'll use it when I start college on the northwest California coast this fall. I'm planning on using it for at least four years of school and for hikes in the nearby redwoods, so it won't be too long before this bag is not looking new.

For school, I just use a classic jansport with the suede bottom. Still looks cool, even if it isn't completely period.

I've seen several excellent rucksacks listed here, but the Friday before the 4th of July weekend the Swiss pack from Sportsmanguide came in the mail. So far it's taken a fair amount of use and abuse that weekend and last weekend, and is holding up well. For the price and the quality, of this used item, it will accompany me on many trips into the woods.

NOTE: I did have to soak some pecards oil into the strapping to soften them up some, but that was expected.

Yea, the Swiss packs can take about anything. I've had mine loaded down with climbing gear, dragged it up rocks, carried it through snow and heavy underbrush and it doesn't look any different then it did they day I got it.

All these very good reviews for that Swiss Pack made me curious. I was looking for a source and here's a link for very German fellow (or for the gearheads out of neighbouring countries) - it's the same shop I got my British backpack from, the price for the Swiss Pack will be 15,- Euro.

Yes, LL Bean can be fairly obnoxious with their logo. The one consolidation is that it is period-accurate. LL Bean has been around since 1914 or so.

I have this one:

The history: Found it in the attic of my grandmother's house. I'm not sure if it's a normal rucksack my dad got when he was a child or if it belonged to my grandfather who was at the SA (then it would be an army-rucksack). you can carry a lot of stuff in it. nice piece, used it for school some time. Then I wrote some stuff on it when I was a teenager but fortunately I could remove it with nail polish remover.

I'd just put some leather grommets in there-or just leave the goofy rivets

I've never been one to be a walking billboard!

I never wear clothes with logos. Sneakers are sometimes an exception(hard to find decent ones without some obnoxious logo) so I just try to minimalize it.

I think what he may have been referring to is preferring not to have to pay for the privilege of advertising some company's product, which -- in my mind -- is what one does when they buy boldly logoed clothing. I feel the same way, although I do make an exception now and then, such as in the case of Orvis's short sleeve polos. I like it much better when I'm being paid to advertise other people's products, which I'm hoping was the case with your car.
