Has anyone purchased one of these from "Millenium Sports" for $35 off E-bay? If so, how well does the paint stay on....or does it chip off easily (the painted four-leaf clover)....?

IIRC, the clover on the eBay lighter is a sub-standard transfer sticker or something. It chips off and wears off quite fast.

For your Clover Zippo needs, contact esteemed board member Relic Raider. His clover badges are something else.

I agree... go for the RR version. It's art.

I agree.. The RR lighter is my standard carry lighter.

I might as well get in line with the rest of these guys by saying, RR's clover lighter's are above and beyond the best! Get one, you won't be sorry!

The clover can't chip because it's embedded in the badge. It's not painted on. Even if you scratch the living daylights out of the surface, the clover is still unharmed. Well, if you scratch deep enough you will ruin the clover. Don't try that!

Relic Raider prefers to be contacted via his email address, which is relic_raider@earthlink.net, but he will also check his PMs on a regular basis. As for price, it's still the same and it won't bust your bank.

I'll join the ranks in recommending Relic Raiders' lighters. They are the best out there that I have seen. Much better than the ones put out by Zippo. But something that people forgot to tell you about Relic Raiders' lighters are that you have choices to make. He has the #200 lighter or a vintage, I believe it is 1941 lighter. You can get resin badges or all metal bages. They all are top quality and they all look great.

Just out of curiosity....It appears that there are different choices in his lighters. This may sound like a dumb question, but regardless of what type of lighter I choose, the clover image is just as sturdy on the lighter regardless of which lighter I choose? Does that make sense? lol... In other words, the clover image is well placed on these lighters, and won't come off easily, regardless of which lighter I choose, correct?

It's not a dumb question at all, but I'm not sure if I can give a clever or even satisfactory answer.
Each material is reasonably resistant for everyday use. The clover won't rub off either type badge. The three badge versions have different properties. A metal badge won't chip, but if you drop the lighter it might get dented or gouged. The epoxy resin badge is very abrasion resistant, but it can chip if hit hard enough. An advantage of the resin badges is the low weight, which lessens any impact if the lighter is dropped. The hybrid badge is very resistant and flexible. The urethane used does not chip or break. In the end, it's impossible to say which version is the most or least resistant, because you simply don't know if you will drop the lighter on concrete, if the dog will chew on it, or if a 5 year old gets ahold of it. You can't cheat fate! I suggest you simply choose what you LIKE best based on nothing but looks. One word of advice: if you choose the metal version, don't let it sit around anywhere, because sadly those lighters tend to get stolen. It's already happend twice!

And please, anyone else feel free to chime in, because you guys are doing most of the field testing, while I get sticky hands in the lab.

Thanks Pyroxene. What can I say, I've got lighters on the brain. The black and silver hybrid was a special order and I'm very happy with the gothic look. I've also made black badges with a green clover and I suspect there will be more variations. I can make the hybrid badges pretty much in any color. I'm afraid of Saint Paddy's Day.
I've also created an alternative to the bright white badges with the green clover. I use epoxy resin for an off-white hybrid badge that matches the color of the off-white coated resin badges. They look sort of like aged ivory and have a softer look than the bright white hybrids. I made them with a satin finish, but glossy is possible, because this is a heat-cured finish. The funniest thing is, of course, RRs lighter looks way, way, way better than even the actual movie prop. No lie!

Check out that Star Wars to Indiana Jones book which delves into the Lucas archive, and there's a good closeup of the Elsa lighter. The original is REALLY shoddy looking. LOL

It looks like there were a few, possibly different versions of the clover lighter used in the movie. The above prop seems to be painted with thick poster paint, and I mean thick! Or maybe it's like a thin, roughly painted badge. I doubt that Zippo put that together. It looks like something quickly assembled by a prop maker. The lighter that Henry drops on the carpet seems to have a slicker finish. The paint also catches fire when Henry blows on the flames. I wonder how many takes that scene required?

Maybe the lighter we see in the book is the lighter, and the other side is burnt?

(OK, I know on movies there are multiples of basically everything. Not really a big chance of it...)
