LOL...makes an 8 month wait look like a nothing at all!!!
I have enjoyed going back through all the pictures of everyone's ABs. I have to say I love the one i own and definatly owe Bending Oak one for helping make my mind up to finally get one. Over the past 6 months or so of wearin my AB my SAB has made a new home in a storage box in my coat closet. I am looking forward to the ABs i have on order and will be sure to post some pics when they arrive. GRATZ again to everyone's AB's. And GRATZ to you Steve for finally getting yourself one of your own hatz

Thank you. Oddly enough, I find it looks better in pictures of me wearing it, as opposed to my mirror's reflection. But I also have a teardrop JW fedora that looks great in the mirror, but not in photos. I think the photos are probably more accurate

Anyone have any advice on how to get my center dent deeper? I never seem to have this problem with my beaver AB, but the rabbit AB I have just won't hold a deep center dent at all. My head pops it back up every time. Tips, anyone?

Not wearing the hat for a few days after shaping it, to allow the felt to set, was a simple solution that worked for me. Wetting the areas you want to change, shaping the hat and then allowing it to dry is another method. Adding stiffener may help, too, and steaming is a last resort that has always worked but sometimes shrinks or tapers the crown.
The problem of your head popping out the top crease may be a tough one to eliminate, though, unless you can get a tighter fit that allows your hat to rest higher up on your head.

I did this, and it seems to have worked. The hat now has the same problem I originally had with my first beaver AB shortly after I got it, which is my head still pushes the dent up, but not enough to push it out. Instead, there's a lump in the middle where my head is pushing, but since it was shaped while wet, the shape put into it isn't coming out. Rather unsightly from the top, but not a big deal over all.
I just have a problem with not wearing a hat low on my head. If I don't tug it down and really feel the tension, I am petrified the thing will just blow off, and that does not make me feel very good.

Strider, When was the rabbit made and when was the beaver made?

Rabbit was made probably late last year (I got it in December, just a few days before Christmas, IIRC), and I've had my beaver for almost 2 years. However, I wasn't referring to the current beaver hat I have, which I don't have a problem with. The very first one I owned, which was probably in late 2005 had this problem. The two subsequent ABs I bought in 2006 did not have this problem, one of those being the one I sold to San Holo, and the other I still own.

I propose that we make a rule that from now on, whenever you show off or talk about receiving an AB, you have to say when you ordered it. We would save SO much time and posts that way. :junior: -M

Raider57, in the thread AB Wait Times you said you ordered in Decemeber 2006 right? I think that is when he ordered guys just in case you want to know. But hats are coming out based on size not when you ordered them I think...not sure. Great hat again Raider57.

Mulceber, we should make it where they have to note their original order date AND hat size, just to give everyone an idea about what size batch Steve is working on at the moment.

Hey All,
You know, I was putting my AB back on the hanger as I got back from a day of hiking, and I realized that in the three and a half years or so since I ordered my Adventurebilt Fedora's, I have never once posted a photo of them!
So, here are my three AB's.
This is the very first AB I ordered. I am sad to say I have only worn it about 2 times since I got it (Out of the house that is). *Oh, I actually replaced the original ribbon with a vintage one that Steve sent.
This is the second AB I ordered and it has seen a few adventures in it's 3 year life. I pretty much wear this on every hike and trip I take. I'm pretty sure this was the old block Steve was using.
This is my AB bogey. I wear this one to the opera/ballet/etc. I have a few vintage suits that I wear with it and I look just topps!
Let me know what you guys honestly think.

^Nice hat trick.
Why haven't you worn the first one out? The Bogey is sharp.

by crazylegsmurphy
Umm...honestly....the two reasons are that first and foremost I don't really have much to wear with it....but, well the raiders one looks good on me, but the LC one looks a little odd on my chubby face. The only reason that I haven't had it reblocked or sold it is that I'm in the process of sliming down and hope it will look better.

Just do it!!! The AB tag line...I just scrunched up my Keppler but good. Then I sat on it for about 10 minutes while I smoked a cigarette, then when I popped it back out it had some wrinkles in it. I then kneaded it some more to soften it up per Lee's video and the wrinkles are gone. Now it looks even better than when I 1st got it, has character and it's all ready for the the May 22nd premier...Also somehow it fits even better too.
Oh this is for the guys that said they were hesitant to sit on their hats. Sorry I don't have an AB yet to post, but I will soon enough.

Okay, on March the 14th I became an e-mail from Steve he's working on my hat, one of the last rabbits in the raven bar style.
Last thursday DHL delivered a white package from Columbus, Mississipi. A beautiful reddish brown adventurebilt fedora jumped out of the box. But... not raven bar bash... It was KOTCS Style. So I took the pliable crown in my two hands and put in that style the hat was ment for:
And voila. My seconed AB. (To everyone who's waiting for an AB, I've ordered the hat on Feb. the 4th 2007, wearing a 56 / 22 inch.) But I think the bash looks more like "before the temple" scene. Just with a slight turn. So the elements will do the rest.
My first AB, by the way, is an AB Dlx. A proud hat on a proud head
Thank you, Steve, for this wonderful lid. It was a gift for 100,- bucks. But now, after receiving this, the wait time hit me again. I'm looking forward to the beaver KOTCS style fedora.

Sweet Hat...does anyone know off hand the difference in crown hight from the old AB's to the new block?

IIRC the originals were 6" and the current correct height is 5½". But that was with the very first hats back in 2004.

No worries Hunter... hey you remind me of someone from Red Dwarf (a uk sci fi comedy series).. the actor had an American accent..
I believe I remember seeing him in the fifth element as one of the cops who orders McDonald's and as bruce willis' car bashes past him he spills his drink over himself "No license, he's a car thief blast him"

i bought an AM from Dan (Neolithic) about 2 weeks ago and got it on friday. This AB was never really used as it was an extra of Dans. I was lucky to see this listed and snagged it just intime before anyone else
. With just getting my new XXL todds, and my Purewip, my raiders look is definitely looking much better. I have since thrown some fullers earth on this baby, because to me unless the gear looks truly like indys, it just doesnt feel indy to me. I will get some great shots of me in full gear at NYCC in 2 weeks, but for now here are some shots.
more shots with the rest of my gear located here:
