I decided to plait a few whips for my own use, some stockwhips and an Indy bullwhip. Here it is:

- 8.5ft Indy whip;
- classic construction - shot loaded core (lead and steel shot), lead loaded handle, 2 bellies, 1 bolster, 12 plait overlay;
- darker ringknot typical for Raiders look.

Looks great, it gives me some Joe Strain vibes.

Thanks guys!

It was a shame not to have any of my own whips so I decided to braid an Indy whip, a single stockwhip and a pair of stockwhips :CR:

Well, you HAVE to own your own brand! It's so satisfying using a whip you made yourself. Totally different experience than cracking a bought whip. :TOH:

First whip in 2023 - classic 10ft Indy bullwhip in brown.

Usual specs of shot loaded core, lead foundation on an 8 inch spike, two bellies and 1 bolster covered by 12 plait overlay.

One unusual feature is the cord used for the buttknot. It's 10 mm wide while the overlay strands are 12 mm wide (pre stretching). I think it makes a better, cleaner knot, with not so much overlapping.

Happy cracking in 2023!

Thanks guys.

I always admired Ben Scott's heelknots as they were super clean with no overlapping strands. I still need to learn a bit how to do it.

My version of Classic bullwhip for whip artists. David Morgan offered them in the past - they were basically the Indy whips but in 16 plait and with a short 8 seam section on the transition.

This one is an 8 footer in brown paracord with 2 plaited bellies and shot loaded core and lead loaded handle.

The whip is available for sale. It'll go to the Cairo bazaar soon.

Looks good! I like the idea of the O2U2 pattern at the thong beginning. There was a user here who had one in leather, with a darker transition knot. Nice variation from the classic Indy.

Yep, Whipwarrior asked one of the whipmakers to replicate the whip Morgan offered. It had darker knots indeed.
They are pretty rare to find these days.

Re: My quest bullwhip *** new offering ***

Post by tomek9210 »

As of now I'm introducing new material for my Indy whips. It's 6mm wide nylon paracord which allows 12 plait overlays to match the original leather Indy whips.

This is the 8 foot Indy whip in brown with an 8 inch lead loaded handle, steel shot loaded core, 2 paracord bellies and 12 plait overlay from the new cord. The handle diameter is 22 mm at the bottom and 23 mm under the ringknot. The diameter of the whip just before the fall hitch is 7 mm.
Some photos show it along my Del Carpio's Raiders bullwhip. The brown color nicely match darkened natural tan of the roohide whip.

Unfortunately due to the cost of the material whips made with it will cost more than whips made entirely from the 550 cord:
8ft 16 plait Indy 550 cord: 230 USD shipped;
10ft 16 plait Indy 550 cord: 250 USD shipped;
8ft 12 plait Indy 550 cord: 280 USD shipped;
10ft 12 plait Indy 550 cord: 330 USD shipped.

The whip is for sale. I'll post in the Cairo Bazaar.

Happy cracking! :whip:

Thank you!

I'm pretty much obsessed with Indy whips and recreating them in artificial materials to match them as close as possible to the leather ones.
This material is quite close but I need to adjust the taper as it's a bit thicker than 550 cord.
