More than half from what I can see. It almost looks to hug the bottom of the arm pit.
I thought that too, but when I looked at the top of the other pocket (which is barely visible) is looks as if there is a bit more room. Then I compared it to the original one
here, and the pockets do not seem as huge - but the armholes do.
What really is interesting is that if the jacket was worn back off the shoulders the pockets would be even higher. The big pockets give the jacket an almost childsize quality. And I really do not know how to explain that. But if you take an adult jacket and make it in a size to fit a child, it has a distinct look. That is how the pockets make that jacket look on the TN. I have a hard time believing that this is the same jacket that Ford wore unless it distorted or shrunk over time.

Looks nice Chris. I'm interested to see how the pockets look in the straight-on shots. They do look too darn big for my taste.
I think I'll be getting one of these in the near future. I've seen enough photos that just have that undefinable Raiders quality that screams Indy, even if they aren't screen accurate with every shot in Raiders.
Maybe I'll get two
. One as an exact copy of the jacket TN had on loan and the other with my various requests to try and duplicate the screen accurate jacket of my choice. Plus, that way both of my sons will have an awesome jacket eventually.

I thought that too. There is some texture/distressing on the collar that seems to be missing once they are inside. Compare these collars:
They look the same to me.
The collar texture is not so pronounced here (right before Indy jumps over the pit in the "throw me the idol..." scene)

Which reminds me of the point made many times before: no
one jacket (hat/whip/shoes/bag/underwear) will be screen accurate with
every shot in Raiders because they had
multiples of everything. It goes back to the argument of wanting what
you believe the perfect Indy jacket to be, versus what a single, specific jacket actually
was. Tony is happy to give you either.

NO offence but on the jacket tony copied the pockets are not that high up as on every replica of the jacket I have seen so far.

From all I've been seeing in these threads, the texture is a bit too dramatic for my tastes. Maybe about half as much of the scaling effect and it would be great. Looks too much like that certain area of skin on some male mammals...

However, there was definitely some jackets worn by Ford which had larger pockets. Look at the scene where Indy and Sallah are lifting the Ark out. Also, I'd say that the jacket featured in the studio shots from the idol scenes have the smallest pocket of any jackets worn.

EXACTLY! i was following the 'flavour of the month' with the whole small raiders pockets thingy back when i ordered my veg tanned wested....i put it on and looked at a pic of myself and though......that don't look right.
it was the very scene where indy is talking to beloq in the WOS (the 'son of a ..........' scene) where i noticed how large and how high up those pockets were. those were the pockets i wanted on any future jackets regardless of whether or not they conflict with the temple jacket pockets.
like bink says.......many jackets were used and 'SA' is based on interpretation.....unless you have the key to uncle george's office

Speaking of hide, Terry Leonard got an Indy 1 in one of Tony's new yet to be announced hides and said that "this is the Raiders jacket". The shrunken lamb is still "cooler" in my opinion.

That's what's great about a TN. You can get whatever you want. Some might say, “but I can get that from a Wested” (or a Magnoli for that matter). The difference is that with a TN, your starting point is screen used. There’s not much to tweak. Peter has built some “monstrosities” based on some of our requests. Not to shortchange the community. His jacket has also gotten much better based on the community.
To be honest, Todd’s jacket in the comparison looks really good. I’d like to see a Todd’s custom one day for myself. For me personally, I really didn’t need another Indiana Jones jacket. I’ve got four G&B Expeditions (light seal, black, russet, and a “beat up” distressed one). The hide that Tony is offering is just too cool to pass up. Well, that and he knows how to build them.

When I visited Tony last week, he said that Terry was getting his Indy 1 in one of the 2 new hides (the lighter colored one). When I pick up my jacket, I'll ask Tony what Terry eventually got.

They’re both lambskin (not unlike the shrunken lamb), just with less pronounced grain. One is lighter & one is darker. To me both are better than the hides on the hide comparison page. Some people will think that they’re better than the shrunken lamb.

I believe so. They're similar, just without the super grain of the shrunken lamb. I really had a hard time not getting the lighter of the two (as I think that it's spot on for the smoother Raiders jacket in other scenes). In the end I went with the "cooler" hide (shrunken lamb). So-called screen accuracy can go in the toilet.

I was going through some jacket photos looking at the leather and came across this Giorgio Armani jacket worn by Tom Cruise in Mission Impossible. The hide texture looks vaguely familiar.

I agree G. I don't really collect anything but fedoras and jackets. For me it's more about a fashion statement than channeling an SA Indiana Jones look. I simply go for what's cool.

That's definitely the way Tony tells it. This was one of the many interesting stories he told me when I talked to him yesterday. To paraphrase - once I started to talk about the "leather of choice" used on the Indy 1 jacket he said, "While Terry was here he put on my Indy 1 jacket and said "this is the jacket!" That Indy I jacket is made from the shrunken lamb leather and that is exactly the same as the leather that I will use on the jacket I will make for you."

Chris those pictures lend a whole new perspective. The jacket looks even better. I hope you've decided you have a keeper, because I doubt you'll ever find better. (at least the fit for for your display)
I'm wondering when you tried on the jacket and found it short in the back, was it pulled up high on your shoulders and forward, or do you have a long back length compared to the mannequin?

The Raiders "short back" is actually one of the elusive features of the jacket. It’s one of the “wrong” design features of the original Raiders jacket. The G&B expedition is also short in the back, but the differential between the back and the front measurements is not as extreme as on the one that Tony examined. This is why we’ve been chasing ghosts (and our collective tails) for all these years. You can’t decipher details like that from looking at pictures (only from 3D tangible objects that can be inspected by hand). Cheers
