Henri, your comments are a breath of fresh air. I'm afraid it does happen over time - first, a hat is good enough as long as it's a hat. Then it has to be brown. Then it has to be tall-crowned. Then it has to have a tight front pinch and a top crease. Then it has have the right brim curl and thin, floppy felt. And on and on.
I think you're right that one can get so clinical in one's quest for accuracy that one loses the freshness and joy that this is supposed to be all about. I remember noticing the other day how dissatisfied I had become with my jacket, where once I was rejoicing because it was the closest jacket I'd ever had.
It all goes to show that, try as we might, we will never be able to derive true joy or contentment from material possessions. God, family, friends, health -- all these are infinitely more important than stuff.
I've met you, Henri, and you're one squared-away kid. You have a peace about you, a respect for elders, and a contentment and acceptance of being a kid that I lacked at your age (and, possibly, still lack). Thanks for the perspective.
