Henri, your comments are a breath of fresh air. I'm afraid it does happen over time - first, a hat is good enough as long as it's a hat. Then it has to be brown. Then it has to be tall-crowned. Then it has to have a tight front pinch and a top crease. Then it has have the right brim curl and thin, floppy felt. And on and on.

I think you're right that one can get so clinical in one's quest for accuracy that one loses the freshness and joy that this is supposed to be all about. I remember noticing the other day how dissatisfied I had become with my jacket, where once I was rejoicing because it was the closest jacket I'd ever had.

It all goes to show that, try as we might, we will never be able to derive true joy or contentment from material possessions. God, family, friends, health -- all these are infinitely more important than stuff.

I've met you, Henri, and you're one squared-away kid. You have a peace about you, a respect for elders, and a contentment and acceptance of being a kid that I lacked at your age (and, possibly, still lack). Thanks for the perspective.

Right-on Henri! Your posts just proved that we tend to get "way over the top". I remember the first time I met another fan and I really got bummed when I was told the buckle on my bag strap was way off. "But, it's from MBA!", was my response. Little did I know the slippery slope I just stepped on. Bottom line: You are your own gatekeeper.

Thanks for the reminder, Henri....

Well said Henri Defense! If you find a fedora you like than shape it the best way you can.If you are happy with the results and it is to your liking, than wear it in good health.I too have found myself purchasing a variety of fedora's to get that perfect look.I have one noggin and now eleven fedora's.And no matter which one I shape, they all come out with the same results. They all look good to me and I sometimes find myself obsessed with this hobby.Whether it be a $50.00 fed or a $450.00 optimo Find it,buy it,shape it and wear it.It's as good as it's gonna get.

Best regards,

So....um....it's in a vault somewhere? Where exactly is that?

So, who's up for a heist? We can be like Indy's Eleven or something like that.

Jackson Hole, Wyoming. Harrison Ford is standing on the lawn of his ranch house. His ex, Melissa, is tossing his things out the front door. She comes out with something brown in her hand.
"And here's your &*(%# hat." and flings it like a frizbee. Out of nowhere a half dozen people in leather jackets and fedoras charge across the lawn. Ford's jaw drops.
"There it is."
"Get away, I've got it."
"It's mine. I'ts mine. Bwaa ha ha!"
"No you don't! Let go!"
The hat is torn to smithereens. They hang their heads. They walk away.
