Much of that mushroom look is just the particular type of felt.....it has a tendency to settle and bloom, or bell outwards, as if gravity was pulling the hat down. I did nothing to mine except wear it. It is turned, yes. I think if this felt had more stiffener in it, you would not get these Raideresque results. Fedora

My screenshot, my screenshot dear Fedora! :) I'll surely come back to the subject in a few months. It's so difficult to say goodbye to my Akubra... :)

Here's a thought. Just a thought. I think that many of us don't yet have or will not "thrash" our HJ hats. It could be that, at least to some degree, that "aging" has caused the hat to warp and shrink in such a way so that the bottom of the ribbon and the bottom of the sweatband no longer line up like they did in the beginning. The ribbon ends up a little higher on the hat.

Personally I really doubt a narrower sweat band in there. I think that some are over-thinking this.

I do not have "proof" or anything like that but do have some worked over HJ's where things travel around a bit - not as much as can be accounted for with these photos but it may be a factor.

Oh, just playing devil's advocate but I would be surprised if there were a leather band that narrow in there.

Could have also been something inside the sweat band to make the hat a little smaller for Ford's head but someone brought that up already in this thread or another.

Weird, though, huh?
