Does it count to post an AB Henry here?? I hope so! Either way, this thing was built for adventure! This is it most recently. I had reblocked it a few months ago and it has kept its shape quite nicely while taking on new characteristics. *No artificial aging here has taken place.*

Hey guys, this might be a little out of context but hey I'm showing two adventurebilt hats, one made by Steve Delk and the other one made by john penman, please just look at the ribbon from the top it's a darn awful thing, I've barely used this hat just because it makes it look weird, it has a purple hint to it and I don't know overall it just looks bad to me.

I've been meaning to send it to John to get it replaced but I live in Mexico and shipping to the U.S is going to cost me more than getting the ribbon replaced, i would be spending nearly 200 just to get a new ribbon.

So my piece of advice is don't buy hats from Steve nowadays he doesn't use the materials he used before and it's kind of annoying to Pay 650 for something that at the end is not going to be SA or that you are not going to be happy with it.

Honestly if you're planning on getting one just go straight with Penman, he is my favorite hatter but still I'm really annoyed that I've had this hat for nearly two years and I barely use it.

MOD EDIT: last line deleted. Please re-read the post from the vendor's section.

Ha. So I had the same issue. Pics are still around I am sure. I had since had my AB reblocked by penman hats with new ribbon.
I wish I had not. That purple hue gave the hat character. Maybe not SA character but character none the less.
I have a few vintage hats with ribbon that has taken on that faded color too. I will never replace the ribbon.

Speaking of materials, what does anyone think of the recent sweatbands? My AB had the absolute worst sweatband I have and I have about 30 custom and vintage felts from different manufacturers and custom makers.

How recent of AB's are we talking? Steve is still producing new hats? Mine seems fine which was a back order I finally received 3 years ago. It is great, and seems to have the screen accurate ribbon, however it carried the staff of Ra lining and not the updated Pyramid logo. I like it though, but wasn't what I was expecting. I suspect he still had many of these linings laying around ready to be used.

Nice AB KT.

As for me, my AB and my family are going on a little adventure. We are moving to the cascades in Washington State.
I will be the outdoor adventure program director for a camp there. Very excited and for the journey west, I will have along my "old faithful" the AB Steve made me three years ago.

I've actually been on the books to send it in to John Penman for a re-block this or next month on his Raiders adventurebilt block. It also desperately needs a new liner.

It has tapered quite a bit over the years. When I push out the bash the sides are not straight anymore. Not easy to tell in these photos though as I have the the back raised enough to make the sides look straighter and the top a bit flattened out. Still looks good but I'm very excited to rebash it once it has it's tall boxy shape restored.

To be honest, I think it looked better as a Crystal Skull fedora. :-k At least it'll get a reblock on the AB Raiders block so that the bash will match the block shape. :TOH:

Well it's true that that's what it was created for. However my brim was too big according to all the specs I've found on the CS hat, including talking to John Penman about it. The brim is Raiders specs, so I think that it's appropriate for it to live that life. I don't want to cut anything.

Also, the CS bash is very similar to the Last Crusade bash and I have a very nice new Steele and Jones LC fedora for that look. I don't own 20 hats like some on here (I wont name names :#: ), just the two brown fedoras, and one grey "Clipper" hat, so I really want those two brown Indy's to be uniquely different. Also Raiders and Last Crusade are my two favorite movies. CS is not.

Being able to pull off the Raiders SOC bash this well though with the CS block and fighting the taper, I'm sure I can do even better with the AB Raiders reblock.

I will certainly post again once I send and receive back my AB. Very excited to see what John will do with it.
