Steerpike: that's a great looking AB and bullwhip. The CS fedora and the Raiders fedora are a close tie for me--but I must say that the CS bullwhip is my favorite color for an Indy whip.

Ian, jnicktem, and Mitch: thanks, gents! :D :TOH: I'm sure my AB will get more dust from excavating soon enough ;) (though 'fraid not this summer).

:TOH: Best wishes,
Nebraska Schulte

Lovely hat....If we ever get anywhere close to being able to meet, bring that one with you eh? ;)

Give Tuck my condolences...But it's nice to see it kept in the "family" :TOH:

It's so, so heavy compared to everything else I own. Mercury felt be weighin' down my noggin. It's now wrapped and stashed away in its hidey-hole where it belongs.

Does this count as a AB? Kinda Sorta Maybe?
This is a AB/HJ Raiders that I just received from Mitch Larue. Amazing lid!

Very glad to see that it's made it to your home and on top of your head!

Sinners!! [-X That Mercury Hat needs to be living out in the sun, not tucked away! It spent decades in a hidey-hole until Steve made it into a beautiful hat. :(

That's a great looking display. I like the card you made and had Steve sign. What does the fine print say? Hard to see from the pic. Funny thing, I find it hard to wear my AB CS as well. I display mine on a hat stand with a framed CoA signed by Steve. I remener being so excited when i got the hat, but found myself not wanting to get it dirty, etc. Go figure.

Thanks, I made a few to send Steve right before I received my hat, I wanted it to be inline with my Master Replicas stuff. Here's what the plaque had said:

I don't mind at all! I printed it out on matte photo paper, just make sure you get the size right. I'll put a higher res (vector) version of it up if you'd like.

How about this idea.

Option 1: Work it out with the various vendors to send them a Indygear "approved" high resolution image (PDF) of the various merchandise they offer so they could, print, sign and send out with them. Then we could all have a standardized card for our displays.

Option 2: Create a place on the Indygear site where all the PDFs could be posted so we could have access to them to do on an individual basis. Use a single person's design so that there's consistency in the product. Make it so members can request to have new additions added as merchandise becomes available.

This reminds me of a business size card I created for members of a car forum I belonged to. I posted instruction for supplying me their info and photo of their car, then I would add it to the design and send them a high resolution image. I gave them a link to an online printer that had great prices for cards to have them printed. We would hand these out to all local car shows and events to get people to come online and join. A lot of new member showed up this way.
Here's one of the cards. The only thing that changed from card to card was the car and name.

I think thats a great idea, and it could serve as a COA of sorts for the various gear/props/etc. As a bit of an obsessive compulsive, its always nice to have everything uniform!

If you guys are into this idea I can start working on drafts. I'm a high school art teacher so I have some time over the summer :H:

Well I don't know.... I think it would be safer to just regard yours as an example so people can make something similar themselves if they wish. LFL has a reputation to be extremely protective of their properties and there have been problems around here in the past. Just be careful. :TOH:

For the record, I love the plaque/card and don't like being someone who is putting a bit of a damper on a fun idea.

Aaaaah! I'm just afraid something is going to happen to it. It's wayyyyy too hot here anyway to wear that lid outdoors - temps this week vary from a sweltering 108 to a relatively refreshing 105. When the weather cools down I promise it'll get some air...

Just got back from a family holiday to Denmark. Loads of pictures will be sprinkled throughout the board. Took my Sahara 'Michaelson' AB with me. I've had it for about a year and it got more of a workout in the two weeks we traveled than I think it did the 50 weeks prior!

Image

This was in LegoLand. I had to get my picture with the cigar store indiana, but felt conflicted since it wasn't made out of legos.

I love that hat. And also every one of your pictures. You always look so happy, and like where you are is seriously the best place on earth, and you are tickled pink to be there.

I have a 3rd hand Adventurebilt Crystal Skull that I purchased in the bazaar on the way. Hopefully it will be here tomorrow. I am really exited as this will be quite a upgrade to my rebashed wool Dorfman Pacific from Disneyland. I hope it fits.

My first AB was 3rd-hand through the Bazaar and it's my 'everyday' hat. Can't go wrong with an AB.

Thanks! This Sahara color is my unofficial travel hat until I get my grey AB. It was easy to smile in all the holiday shots, we were having such a great time.

I am fairly certain I have a long oval head. If the hat does not fit, is changing the hat to fit a long oval something that is worth trying to tackle myself with a hat jack and steam, like the videos I have seen on the web, or given the worth of the hat should I send it to Mr. Penman or see if Mr. Keppler could change it for me?

I have a long oval head, probably a long-long oval, and I have never had the need to do anything to an AB except rebashing (so the turn wouldn't be too extreme, which won't be a problem with your CS) and wearing it as long as it was the right size. These hats conform to your head when you wear them, so as long as it isn't too small or too large you won't have any problem. :TOH:

I got my Adventurebilt Crystal Skull today. After tweaking the brim I am really happy with it, although my wife thinks it looks "stupid". The hat is really beautiful. It was made in 2008. It is a little dirty, likely from Fuller's earth. I am unsure whether I should clean it up or leave it as is. If I do end up cleaning it, I am sure there are some threads in the gear care section on how to do it without messing it up.

I will post pictures tonight.

Sorry for the poor quality of the first picture. I have sizing questions.

It feels snug, but not really uncomfortable. It feels like I could run around with it on my head and not have it fall off. It also feels like I can't get it any farther down on my head.

How tight should it be?

Do I have it far enough down on my head?

Should it be looser?

If so, can I stretch it a little by getting the back of the sweat band wet and using Mr. Penman's hat jack?

Thank you,

:TOH: Dr. Jones

Sounds like it could be a tad looser. I would just leave the hat in the Penman hat jack over night, and then try it on in the morning. After some wear it will probably loosen up. It won't loosen up a lot though, just a little.

It seems like most of us wear our hat with the brim just slightly above the tops of the ears. Yours does seem high in that area. My Penman gray CS is just barely snug and would only fly off with a really strong gust of wind. I wear it everyday and don't get headaches or sore skin from wearing it. It's very comfortable.

Thank you,

I was able to pull it down a little farther and I think it looks a little better. It is still just barely too snug, which I think is because it is so soft. If it were any stiffer, it would definitely be uncomfortable. I am confident that a little stretching with a hat jack will loosen up enough that it will be perfect. I will hopefully post some better pictures today.

After wearing it a bunch in the past day it seems to have loosened up a bit. I am able to get it in the right place on my head comfortably. I am still going to get the Penman Jack Stand to keep it this way.

Great looking hat you got there! On the snugness: I bet it feel snug front to back, doesn't it? If so: that's just because the hat isn't done conforming to your long oval head shape and with a little wear it'll be just fine ;)

If it is also snug on the sides it might be a hair too small and one of Penman's hat jacks will do the trick :TOH:
