I'm not overly happy with UPS, I ordered my boots paid the premium/expedited shipping price and according to the tracking, won't be getting my boots till tomorrow.

For some unexplained and strange reason, they went from Dallas to South Carolina, and I've never seen my packages from Todd's going that far out of the way. Usually they go from Dallas to somewhere in Florida, then to me when it gets to this point. I think I'll be calling UPS on this one.

Not upset with Todd, he got them out within an hour or two of my order!

Oh, and when I got my $5 refund from Todd, PayPal put a hold on ALL the money in my account. Which is still there. Anyone else get this?

Yeah I got the hold too. No big deal, takes a few days.

No big deal when it's holding the ENTIRE balance I had in PayPal which I needed?! I had sold some things on eBay and needed to transfer the money and before I could it got held. 2nd time in a few weeks PayPal has messed me up with their holds. Last time it was $100+ they held for nearly 2 weeks. All over someone's stupid buying habits.

If that sounded angry, I'm not. Just a little aggrivated. I don't mind and understand if it had just held my $5 refund. But the entire balance?:roll:

P.S. Anyone recieved theirs yet?

Sorry I misunderstood, I thought you just meant the $5. I know they did that for me because I paid with an instant transfer. Why would they hold the whole amount? Did you call them on this? Maybe a glitch in their system?

Well here are some basics that pics may or may not tell us:

1. Leather- Thin? Robust?
2. Soles- Do the materials look durable at this point?
3. Overall Opinion- Do these strike you as "real boots" or just good for costuming.

My experience with repro boots is hit or miss from WW2 reenacting. If these are boots that were intended for real wear and tear then great. If not, it will be good to know up front. The price is not bad either way.

I hope you enjoy these pictures of the Todd's boots. If they have your size get a pair! The layered soles and heels really look like 405's. The leather is nice and the color is a great brown color, not reddish like some Aldens I have seen. All of the lacing hardware looks like the Aldens as well. This is a great shoe - especially for the price. I can see these shoes will be easier to age at this price, than trying to justify ageing/destroying a $300.00 pair of boots. And yes the leather has a nice durable feel to it

How's the fit? What size are you normally, what size did you order, and did were they too big or small?

And one final question...

What is the airspeed velocity of an unladen swallow? ;-)

I wear a size 11 and the eleven fits. However I have been going back and fourth with D and E widths. I perfer an E width if it is available. I cannot say they are too narrow. However, I think my foot is a little wider than it used to be. My guess is that they are similar fitting to the Alden's but I'm no shoe salesman!

The difference in a half size is only 1/8 inch in length.

In your position, I would just go up a half size. (particularly for the price!) If they don't fit well enough, I'm sure you can return them to Todd, or sell them on to another member.

In my position (narrow feet) I would go down a half size.

Just throwing that out there for those on the fence.

Thanks for the pictures, Indiana Jake. I can't imagine a more accurate looking shoe, other than an Alden you can get for a lesser price. Todd has provided us with a very nice alternative. I orderd a pair last week and looking forward to them. I have a pair of Rockports and I am always looking for a less expensive shoe that compliments our gear.

Todd...any chance on getting these boots with a slight tread (good for hiking and real-world adventuring)? Maybe something with a low profile Vibram sole? If so, I am on board!

I had a pair of old Merrell boots that had the Indy look and color and your boots (if offered with the above mentioned sole) would do well in replacing them.

The color looks like the screen used pair Noel Howard had.

I get that Aldens (of which I own a pair) and the Adventurebilt Aldens are top quality, but the price on Todd's shoes is amazing.

Also huge props to Todd's on service - I had a minor glove issue and he's taken care of it very promptly. I wish other vendors were this nice to deal with. And his range of stuff is always increasing too.

i knew they would look good but i swear i thought for a second jake was pulling our leg and posting pics of the aldens. and the price is INCREDIBLE...thanks Todd! i was wondering if anyone would ever fill in the gap in the INDY boot market and boy Todd sure has in a big way!

and by the stories ive been hearing about aldens quality and wait time. coupled with the weird pumpkin ish color. i just dont see any reason to buy new aldens at this time (especially at the current price). this will be my first pair of "real" INDY boots. until now all ive had are work and hiking boots that werent even close to the look. and afterall thats why were all here...for the look.

i cant wait to get my hands (err, my foot) on those boots.

Thanks for posting pics!

Once Todd has expanded his sizing on these, I'll be sure to get a pair. If you didn't tell me these weren't Alden's I'd never know, other than the screen accurate color.

So Todd, looks like the pants are about the only thing holding you back from literally being a one-stop Indy shop. Any idea when to expect those? ;-)

Wow! I just looked at the new pics. Those boots look fantastic.

Hopefully at some point down the road he'll make them available in size 13 because I'd love to own a pair.

No offense to Mr. Magnoli but I'll pay $74.95 over $330 any day.

What I would like to see is a no-nonsense review of the two boots. Materials, durability, scree accuracy (for those interested), construction methods, etc. That would be a good read.

Keep in mind with the magnoli boots:

I have had several pairs of custom made shoes and they have been very nice...expensive but nice. However, I have also purchased well made "off the rack" shoes that match the custom ones in fit, style and feel. Feet change over time, sometimes a lot. Shoes/boots can only change a little. I'll take the $74.95 if they are well made...and by all current accounts, they are.

Yes, indeed. But comparing the Todd's vs. Magnoli's by price alone is a bit like comparing apples to oranges because of that factor. I'd still be interested in how Todd's shoes hold up, etc. ;-)

I agree but the price alone is enough to pull someone with limited funds over to Todd. As more people buy his boots, we will see about the quality and construction.

My Todd's boots will be here on the 28th! I'll post my opinion when they arrive.

Custom or not, I can use the extra couple hundred dollars on something else. They're just shoes and at that price I can use them till they die or not feel so bad if I really don't wear them so much. I wish any Indy boot had the choice of a decent tread.

The sole of the Alden is actually some kid of rubber blend material, NOT a leather sole. The grip is decent on normal surfaces (even wet).

No opinion on ice (yet), but unless you have metal spikes on your soles, nothing is partuicularly good there....

I like that the smooth sole does not track any dirt around either... ;-)

I contacted Todd regarding just this. Not feasable due to the high volume he'd have to order in advance.

They are so cheap I expect you could get two pair and have one resoled for ~$40.00 or less...

How about an assessment of the durability of this boot? Is it trailworthy or is it costume quality? As for those of you wanting lugged soles etc. to each his own, but I speak from experience when I say that treaded soles are a royal pain. Mud gets stuck in them, it dries and then it releases as you walk across the champagne carpet in the living room. Unless you are climbing the Matterhorn, you don't need them. It doesn't make the boot any more durable, and you can still slip on ice, slimy rock etc. and bust your rump-I've hiked all over the place-give me a smooth composition sole any day. If you are on ice you can use crampons or creepers. Regards-Tom

Hi Tom and I speak from experience of a very different climate from yours. In a generally cool, damp climate, smooth soles can be a liability. In Scotland I'd never even consider wearing these boots to go on the hill. I bought a pair of AF64s for general wear about town and I have a pair of Todd's on their way. They're purely for fun wear and I can't wait!

Smooth soles are a nightmare for me. I don't need a truck tire on the bottom, but something with a bit of grip.

i can wear smooth soles anywear....went through 4 canadian winters in a pair of doc martins....worse than smooth soles when the plastic freezes up. compound that with the fact that the tread wore out in the last 2 years.

bring the smooth soles on....i'm trained for it!

btw, i wore my 405's through 2 winters now no problem. i did have to climb a snowy hill once.....now that was another challenge too. i wouldn't recommend it
