Well, it looks like Indy's only offering two colors of the strap at the moment, Dusty Brown and Black, unfortunately. I've got one of the older 3 color ones, which on page 1 of this thread is called Burgundy -- but it looks more like Dark Brown to me in real life. It's great. Like I said before, it's ridiculously comfortable for such a thin strap, and it's breaking in wonderfully. Never had it bleed on to my clothes, even while sweating in a white shirt over the summer.
If I were to buy a new strap, I'd go with the Dusty Brown, as I think it complements the light olive green of the bag better. The Black just looks like it'd be too much of a contrast. YMMV, of course.
Best,
Ted

Got the new bag yesterday.I am very impressed with the product. A lot of care has gone into this bag, the attention to period detail to match the original, the materials, workmanship. all first class. I compared it to an original, unissued Mk V1 that I have-astonishing-they could have easily come from the same factory. If time travel ever becomes a reality....
I heartily recommend this product to anyone looking for faithful copy, indyfan or otherwise. Bravo."

I just bought the WPG repro and now I wish I bought yours Magnoli. I need to buy a second one, so I'll probably pick up one of yours. IMHO, yours is the best repro i've seen.

How reasonable is shipping to the US? I've been shipping with DHL lately myself, I know they're cheaper than FedEx or UPS. Thanks.

I do believe his prices include shipping.

They sure do
I ordered the Magnoli Satchel sometime around December. I kind of had mine special ordered, so i could have a strap that had a darker "oiled" look. Magnoli was just in the process of gaining new darker leathers for a darker strap and I decided to place and order and wait. The strap is like a dark brown from what i can see (my bag should be arrive next week sometime) , It's not Raiders SA but more TOD and beyond I think. Here's a comparison from his website.
Not to steal the thunder from Magnoli I just wanted to let everyone know he offers it, and personally i think it looks great
.
I'm planning on using the bag as more of a man bag essentially , im curious how the size will be because i've yet to see a real mk 7 bag in person.

Wow! Was I just looking at the site wrong or does the strap run $45. I ws thinking that the bag and strap were running around $60 shipped. Did Magnoli have to raise his prices?

I noticed that too after going back to re look at things. I was considering one till I saw that the straps were so high. Who knows I might still get one.

Remember shipping is included, and it's coming Australia.
He originally did have the strap and bag for 60 dollars yeah.

I think now if I am looking correctly it is $75 before shipping is even included.

by Nameless_One
It has to be, because every item is listed with shipping already included...
Look at the top of the website:
http://www.magnoliclothiers.com/catalog/
so if the bag is 30 dollars with shipping, and the strap is 45 with shipping, than the bag plus strap is 75 total with shipping.

Yes, currently the bag/strap combo is $75 (shipping included). The price of my leather has gone up unfortunately, hence the increase. I'm trying to come up with some other options though...

Ah ok. That's not terrible. From the photos the bag appears to be extremely well made. I'm still very tempted..

Magnoli, I completely understand having to raise your prices, just noticed that they went up, that was all. Wishing I would have gotten in a little earlier! Lol!

I thought it was New Zealand... although we think of New Zealand as another state of Australia.... As the New Zealand national anthem goes... "We still call australia home... "
(Its an aussie kiwi thing...)
I am tempted by the black strap myself as it seems the browns are not brown enough, the straps as I see them in the movie remind me of bridle leather.

Just put in my own order for this new version of the Mark VII. I ordered mine w/o a strap since I'm a little short on cash. I figure I'll just transfer the strap from my old one when the new one gets here!

I just got my bag in the mail! :junior:
Unfortunately I have no Digicam so i can't take any pictures of it. But I'll try to describe the great bag and strap to you guys as best as i can!
Let me start off with the strap:
I'm by no means an expert in leather goods (or any goods for that matter), but the best way i could describe the leather strap is with the word.....luxurious. The leather is thick yet, very pliable and soft. The color for me is perfect (i got the oiled brown version), it has a great TOD or LC look. The buckle ( i received the roller buckle .... I thought I ordered the regular buckle *shrugs*) is pretty nice. The way the roller works, I see no real reason to fear the buckle to "slip" out of place, due to the fact you have to "pull up" on the buckle. With weight usually being pushed down onto the buckle this insures the buckle will stay in place. I think the strap itself is definitely worth the price, and would be perfect for any bag that needs a strap!
Onto the bag:
I haven't had a chance to see a regular mk7 bag in person. I've seen several pictures however, and i have to say.... Indy did not miss ANY details. Everything is there, right down to a little loop of string that was used (for something ..not sure) at the bottom of the bag...that serves no purpose but to be as accurate as possible!
The material is canvas i believe, thick but very light at the same time. The color i think is very nice, a kind of a light olive brown. Once "broken" in and some "grime" is put on this thing, it will look a little more SA.
I didn't realize how many pockets this bag would have. I count 6 internal pockets! Though the mainly middle pocket is more like one big pocket separated. I'm hoping to use this bag as my "European carry all" , so with all the pockets it will be perfect for organizing junk. If i only it was maybe 1/3rd bigger it would make one #### of a messenger bag.
Anyway I hope that describes the bag well....and hopefully will help you decide on getting a bag or not. :junior:

Neolithic, whats the problem with Tassy? as a cochroach your picking on the little apple people?
Hmm Magnoli the West island is the bigger island...
I do like the darker leather strap.... might have to add that to an order..
My original MKVII is in no need of distressing, but I want the darker leather strap, it goes well with my Dizabone as well. I have washed it in a waterproofing wash that I use for my gore-tex jackets which appears to have softened it a tad and also now it resists the rain alot better.
To fly is heaven to Hover Divine..

Got my bag yesterday. Very nice -- solid material. Feels like it could take a beating. As some have noticed, the color is a somewhat olive-tinted khaki color which certainly matches pictures of some of the vintage MkVIIs I've seen. I don't find myself terribly bothered by it, but I might give it a quick wash with a squirt of green dye just to tint it a bit before attacking it with bleached highlights. The "dusty brown" strap is nice and soft and flexible and looks like it should distress nicely just from regular wear. Overall a great piece of kit.

Indy Magnoli... Any chance you'd share how you make the brass drain holes on the bags? Do you make the parts or purchase them?
I just lucked into a free WWII Czech gas mask bag that with some slight mods would be a good Indy bag. Since your bags look very SA, I wanted to model my mods to this one after yours. Thanks.

The brass drain holes were a bought piece. They were purchased in bulk and I don't have any spares, so your best bet would be to do some internet hunting...

Indy

My Magnoli MkVII arrived this morning and it looks great. excellent colour very finely crafted and styled. perfectly stitched with all the little touches of detail. the large pocket inside looks like it was tailor made for the size of an idol or grail
I think it would look stunning if it was distressed but i just can't bring myself to do it to such a nice bag.
Sadly there was a minor mix up and the strap was the light grooved one and i ordered the dark oiled version, hopefully be able to send the strap back and swap it for the other one.
Indy has been a pleasure to deal with and can't recommend his bag enough. The grooved strap is very nicely done, hopefully be able to tell you about the oiled one when i get the exchange

Got my Magnoli. Overall, GREAT bag. Highly recommended. A few quirks however led me to go ahead and order an actual MkVII from WPG. The biggest thing to me was that the front pocket only goes down to the first seam while actual MkVII go all the way down to the bottom seam. A very minor thing that probably wouldn't matter to most people but for some reason it bugs me. Also it was a bit more tan than I expected. I haven't really studied the movie color but it seems that maybe it should be greener.
However, as I said, It's an awesome bag. Well made and felt very high quality.

I got my bag a short time ago, but I haven't used it since I don't have a strap yet. I have to say this thing is really great, though! Looks fantastic and feels tough as nails. I can see this bag lasting decades, which I suppose isn't surprising since the originals did the same!

Well here we are July 2nd and still no magnoli satchell / bag. I ordered it back on May 26th. Have been communicating through e-mal with the man himself but all I get are "reasons why MAYBE I haven't received it yet".
Hopefully it comes soon, I'm getting worried that it may not show up on time for when I need it.
