Wested Leather MK VII strap leaves stains on my shirt

Post by Manwiththehat »

Hey. I just wondered if anyone else has experienced that the leather strap of the wested leather mk VII leaves stains on your shirt? I was going to wash my shirt and I notice that I had a brown leather stain infront of the chest and at the back of the shirt so I found out it's the leather strap that does it so now I'm wondering what to do :anxious: :-k

In noticed this on one of the straps I converted from new leather dog leash. It left stains but I was able to wash them out. I soaked strap in a water few times after that.

As a guy who sweats quite a lot, I get this with all leather belts/straps. A bit of humidity is enough to extract a bit of the dye from leather items and transfer it to clothes.

My hiking shirts used to have a brown line in the lumbar area, from my leather belt, after hiking in very warm weather with a backpack on the back. At some point all the dye is extracted and this doesn't happen as much anymore. :rolling:

So, I would say it's kinda normal. :?

Cheers,
Bear

It’s fairly normal to get rub off from bag straps sadly. It has to do with the dye process. Eventually it’ll stop after a while, but if you want to speed it up, I’d recommend buffing the strap with an old t shirt or cloth.

Thanks all :) I soaked it in hot water and ran it through a cloth and I managed to get some of it off so I hope it will help from now on :)

Here's an older thread discussing bag strap dye bleed.

Interesting, I've not had this problem with my WPG bag strap... Perhaps it is treated in some way on the backside. I have had similar stains from leather gear on my historical reenacting kit and a wash helped. Unfortunately, marching around in a few layers of wool on a 100 degree day sweating like crazy keeps bringing the stains back  I'll have to keep my eye out for this issue in the future, especially because I'm considering getting another bag strap...

Probably depends on manufacturer and/or each run. I also have a dark brown Magnoli bag strap and it never caused me problems with dye stains while strap made from store bought leather leash did. Leather jackets can leave stains too. Same thing with gun belts.
