Vintage 1980's TOD machete?

Post by WyoWilliam »

I remember an ad in a The Sportsman's Guide catalog for an Indiana Jones TOD machete; This would have been in the mid 1980's, I believe. It was described as being an authentic replica, made in traditional fashion and was good for "cutting your morning grapefruit". (Sure, why not?)
I've never actually seen one, though - I couldn't afford it at the time but am still curious about it. Was it any good, or did it look at all like the one from the movie? Who made it?
I figured if anyone ever purchased one, they might provide some photos on here.
Thanks!

Nope, that's not it - this would pre-date the signed Lucasfilm licensed one from United Cutlery (Which, of course isn't very authentic). If I recall correctly it looked like the Nobel collection one, but I assume cruder based on the description.

Interesting, the only one I remember from back then is the United Cutlery knife.

I have that same NC sword/machete. I got it second hand, but thought these were released around 2008 with the Crystal Skull uptick in the interest in Indy and subsequent collectibles releases.

You're right Jeff. Circa 2008. My bad.

...and I should've included more of my action figure cabinet. There's a certain astromech in it you'd recognize. :TOH:

I love that one, but this one would have been made quite a while ago and very similar. The reason I know is I spent a lot of time trying to replicate it based on the catalog photo, so know it did look like this.

They used to sell them at the Smokey Mountain Knife Works in Sevierville, TN and had a display version behind glass that was 5 feet long!
