Para Cord Whip lengths

Hello Everyone!

I hope you are doing great!

So I am close to buying my first indy whip. I will order from EliasonWhipCo since it's one of the sellers that got recommended in my latest post. it's a paracord whip.
I am looking at the The Adventurer "Indy Style Bullwhip" https://www.etsy.com/listing/982250740/ ... 4316475358

My doubt is which length to pick? I am between 6 or 8 ft. I want it for my indy cosplay and would also love to learn to crack with it. will a 6ft look good on the belt and be good to crack with it as well? I ask because I have heard 6ft is good for beginners.

I think aside from 9 and 10 footers, whips start looking ok on the belt at 7 feet. 8 feet is already great.

6 feet is great for learning indeed, though. If you've never cracked a whip this is what I'd go with. I got my first successful crack out of a 5 footer.

And if you coil it a bit tighter you get enough coils for it to look ok.

I've cracked many of his whips, and he does excellent work. I learned to whip with 9 and 10-footers, but that's not always the way to go. I think you'd be fine going with 8 feet, and it'd look better on your belt, but you may find six easier to crack. Eight feet would also work better for doing wraps if you plan to do those eventually.

I agree, an 8" whip is not too long to learn on. My first whip was a 10' and I couldn't do a thing with it. I was at a class and the instructor gave me an 8' and I cracked it on the first throw. Once I learned the timing with the 8' I was able to switch to the 10', but I don't think it's as much fun. I eventually sold the 10' and have had a 7' since.

To echo what others have said, for a beginner 6 or 8 foot whips are probably best. 8 foot probably will look better on the belt, but you really can't go wrong either way. I have also heard great things about the Economy Indy bullwhip made by Torrance Fisher of Sword Guy Builds. To my knowledge, It's a bit more accurate in the handle area than the Eliason Whip Co. Adventurer. But, not having owned either, I've heard both are good whips. Can't wait to see what choice you end up making length-wise! Once you get a whip, I highly recommend videos by Adam Winrich to learn to crack it. He gives very straightforward instruction.
