What's the best Raiders holster on the market now?
Hi guys, I don't get on the board to often these days.... work and family keep me busy. I'm looking to just finalise on a few pieces to bring my overall Indy gear to a point I'm satisfied.
One thing is the Raiders holster. I advertised in the WTB for a Wade Egan as I always wanted one but at the time only managed to pick up his gunbelt, whip holder and bag strap and many years ago I ordered a holster and gunbelt from Lee Kepler but unfortunately he sent it to the wrong address and wouldn't honour sending to the correct address.
Ive picked up an Adventurebilt holster and while its well made the colour was quite orange and came up ok with some weathering and dying but was suited for a longer barrel so the proportions are a bit off. I would like something the correct dimensions.
I also have an early Todds and think it's pretty good, the leathers quite thick compared to authentic holsters Ive handled and want something a bit thinner.
Hopefully this isn't coming across too crazy. A lot of the vendors I dealt with years ago are now gone and new vendors have come along but Im not up to date with what's around now. Read a few reviews on current holsters, guys being unhappy with colours specifically so I wanted to know what you gents suggest and whats on the market from who?

Magnoli has one that's likely comparable to Wade's since he was the last vendor to carry Wade's stuff:

Screencapped Leather and Hats has been around for a while now too:

Finally, What Price Glory still offers one that some have had luck distressing and recoloring. This one probably replicates the military-issue "thinness" you mentioned:

Of the holsters I personally own I would say makeitjones. However I also want a Magnoli, since everything he makes seems to be top notch!

Check out El Paso Saddlery. They make a nice full flap holster as well as a Model 1917 specific holster. I use their products.

The Todd's Costumes Raiders holster is excellent in my opinion. Also a good option. There are also some on Etsy if you do a search that look very nice as well.

Not to self-promote, but I make custom Raiders holsters and I'm also doing Webley holsters too now. Much better quality and leather than the larger producers. Happy to answer any questions about my holsters or holsters/leatherwork in general.

I’m surprised Spade and Archer and Penatent Man aren’t listed.

I know in some photos the weather for the Raiders Hoster looks like a Rudy orangish brown color and some scenes it looks like a dark chocolate brown. Or there different holsters used or was it lighting?

Pretty sure it was just lighting.Kyarklover wrote: ↑Mon Dec 11, 2023 7:38 pm I know in some photos the weather for the Raiders Hoster looks like a Rudy orangish brown color and some scenes it looks like a dark chocolate brown. Or there different holsters used or was it lighting?

Re: What's the best Raiders holster on the market now?
Long time since I last posted any new work of mine. So here's a brand new Raiders holster I just finished in rich brown. The customer wanted a patina'd leather, so the leather I selected is very grainy, which once dyed, lends itself nicely to various shades.
I'm of the belief this is the best holster on the market, as it has 2 things going for it: Hand saddle stitching, and optimization. I'm going for the most optimal, real world using holster you can buy. It's a beefy 9-10 oz leather (see what I did there? ) for robustness. This isn't going for "100% screen accurate," this is going for "what is strongest, most practical version of this holster? What would Indy want on his hip?" Think of how Adventurebilt used to use Beaver over Rabbit, as a real world Indy would want a felt that is durable and bullet proof. So I optimize function over look, by giving it a smooth edge coat to prevent frayed edges, the stitching is by hand (like on saddles ) instead of a sewing machine, and these holsters take an absolute BEATING. I can give it the ol' Deborah Nadoolman seat crush, throw it around, and it's only going to develop a better weathered patina. Otherwise, it maintains a stiffness that is unparalleled, and will truly protect your revolver to the highest ability.
Fortune and Glory all!

That's a nice holster, baddates, I do like the natural pattern on the hide. And the sewing being so close to the edge is quite appealing.
