Aside from the handguns Indy carries in the films, what else do you think he may have used, and when?
For context, I think he maintained the Webley as a spare. According to the Bantam/Falcon novels he got it in the early twenties.
Then he had the Colt Official Police (briefly) in ToD.
Then had two 1917s and a Browning Hi-Power in Raiders. Lost one 1917 and presumably the Browing during the events of the film.
He probably lost the other 1917 in 37 (before Crusade).
And used the Webley in Crusade.
It's possible he would have bought something like a S&W Model 27 between Crusade and WWII, during which time he would likely have used a 1911. Also possible is he kept a spare 1917 during WWII, as it takes the same ammo as a 1911.
After the war he may have used the 1911 a little more, but the inevitable happens and he gets it taken away during an adventure. He returns to using the M27, and probably looses that too, eventually.
During the Mystery of the Blues bookend (1950) he gets a Colt Trooper from a bad guy (a couple years before it's released in '53). He probably keeps it and uses it.
IF Indy had a good stretch he could use the Colt Trooper until just before the events of Crystal Skull, when the Soviets grab him in Mexico they take it.
So he had to use the Webely until they take that too in Mazda.
Perhaps when they get back to the States he buys a S&W Model 22 (which is a slightly more refined version of the 1917).
And during the events of DoD he decided to leave it at home so the law wouldn't find him running AND armed while under suspicion of multiple murder.
What do you guys think?

Re: Off-Book Indy Guns
I think the 1911 makes loads of sense, but I am partial to it, as I really love the design.
I think Indy mostly uses guns that he somehow got during service: the 1917, the Webley, Browning, so the 1911 also makes sense I guess. I would think he is just a veteran who kept these in his sock drawer and gets them out when needed.
For the rest, I think it's stuff he picks off bad guys, like you said, but that would depend on what was mostly used at a certain time.
Cheers,
Bear
