Custom laser cut Raiders strap slides

Finally taught myself enough CAD to put together a design file for a local laser cutting company to process.

So earlier this week took delivery of 200 custom Raiders slides in stainless steel.

Andy White was kind enough to loan me his original slide from the Adventurebilt run of 100 for a comparison shot:

Once these are run through the polishing mill they'll be the standard slide on my Raiders straps - will also be available as a standalone retrofit buckle from next week once I've got example pictures sorted.

Looks great, well done!

With the sharp edges taken off after polishing it will be top notch.

For what is a quite simple shape its odd there isn't something like this as a standard line for some manufacturer - I went through a couple of decades worth of buckle supplier catalogues at work and nothing close. So custom made was the only way to go.

Wish Wested would try a similar route for their bag straps - that current slide they use gives me a proper 'that's not right' eye twitch!

I see this again and again when searching for materials: simple stuff is hard to find. Lots of furnishings are made from pot-metal, very low quality.

And it applies to a lot of things.

makes DIY hard at times.

Wested's was the first strap I purchased when I started my Raiders build back in May. As soon as I saw that buckle I knew I'd have to find another source. It's embarrassingly inaccurate.
