Indy's gear bag from DoD - Airport Scene
Has anyone identified the suitcase that Sallah gives Indy at the airport in DoD?
Yes, I know the search function is my friend. I've searched all the keywords I can think of and all I could find was the Gladstone from Temple. The DoD bag looks different to me, but I'm going from memory. I can't find a good screen grab online anywhere.

Thanks so much! I don't know how I missed that one.

Re: Indy's gear bag from DoD
I've only seen the movie once and didn't pay attention to the bag Sallah hands Indy, but I thought it was a Gladstone. The Pusser's Grip is used during the opening chase on the train, but I'm not sure it's what is used again with Sallah.

Re: Indy's gear bag from DoD
I agree, Jeff. When I started reading the thread Alex posted, I realized I had already looked through that topic in my search. I've also only seen the movie once, but I recall a distressed brown leather bag with a hinged metal frame around the zip, similar to a doctor's bag but larger. Looking at pics of the Pusser's Grip opened, it could be confused with the type of bag I have in my memory given the way the zippers run a few inches around the top corners of the bag, so now I'm really not sure. There are plenty of screen grabs of the DoD "Pusser's" online, but I can't find one of the bag Sallah gives Indy. I'll have to look closer next time I see it, or perhaps some like-minded gearhead will solve it for us.Indiana Jeff wrote: ↑Thu Jul 06, 2023 2:26 pm I've only seen the movie once and didn't pay attention to the bag Sallah hands Indy, but I thought it was a Gladstone. EDIT: Forgot to add that I've seen many pics of the Gladstone, and while it is similar it's not the bag I remember either. I don't recall the riveted bar on the clasp in DoD. It's close enough to it that with some major distressing it might be the same bag, but I'm not sure. Guess I just gotta see the movie again.

Re: Indy's gear bag from DoD
I've tried looking for the long shot of Indy crossing the street to the airport to get a look at the bag, but have been unsuccessful. In my minds eye it's dark so more likely a Gladstone.
It's possible they repurposed the same briefcase they used earlier in the movie despite Sallah saying he dug it out from under Indy's bed implying it was a long discarded suitcase. It doesn't have to be that large since it was only holding Indy's adventure gear and all we really see are his fedora and shirt.
I've also changed the title of this thread a bit to better define the bag we are discussing.

I took note of the bag as well! It was very cool and rustic looking leather bag. Deluth makes a bag that looks a bit similar to what I remember seeing. I don’t think the Deluth bag would be it, but their “Lifetime Leather AWOL Bag” loomed somewhat similar to what I saw onscreen. I think Indy’s bag was a deeper brown. Looking forward to when we can get better pictures! I love the idea that Indy had a leather “go bag” with all his adventure gear in it!

I like the Duluth AWOL bag with the exception of the quick release buckles. I prefer real buckles even if they aren't as convenient.

Thanks for the title edit, Indiana Jeff.
The AWOL bag definitely looks closer to what I remember seeing. Good call, Sam.

I like the idea of an Indy go-bag too. It's an especially nice touch if he keeps it under the bed.

Took my daughter to see it today. As an aside she loved is (she's 16).
I paid more attention to the bag. It's definitely leather and has two handles. I don't remember if it has a framed top. Smaller than the Gladstone bag he has in TOD. Pretty average dufflebag size, 12"x12"x20" I'd estimate.

Hmm. The Duluth AWOL bag is 17-3/4"W x 9-1/2"D x 14-1/2"H. Having seen it again, would you say the AWOL is a possible match?Indiana Jeff wrote:Took my daughter to see it today. As an aside she loved is (she's 16).

I doubt it's actually the AWOL, but it's definitely in the right neighborhood. Most likely something they pulled out of the prop department. Though they did go with new backpacks from Frost River that didn't get much more screentime than the holdall does so maybe they did buy a new bag for the scene.

Nice! Thanks, Hawk! I'm gonna dig into this as soon as I have the time.
I know it's not the most exciting prop, but I thought it might be cool to keep my gear in it.
(Not my hat. That's just careless. )

Thx! I keep doing that, asking about glasses or the other duffel, missing the existing threads…. Appreciate the clean-up after me!

Re: Indy's gear bag from DoD - Airport Scene
No worries. It gets confusing with these new pieces of gear if they are being discussed in the Indy 5 section or another gear section.
