I Took The Leap Of Faith...

Post by michaelb »

Greetings Guys and Dolls! A Very, "Belated " Happy New Year to you all.

Been a long time since I have posted.

First of all, as you can see from the title, well, I had an HJ Poet from Todd's Costumes that I first purchased around 2005? One of my FAVORITE hats, however, I found a TINY moth bite in it and I went nuts. After searching for help online and anywhere, I should have just left it alone. Maybe sandpapered it a little, but I just went overboard and destroyed about a 2" tear in the felt along with melting part of the ribbon while trying to iron in the felt that I sanded and scraped off.

This is when I panicked, but after reading about Michelle at Herbert Johnson, how she took control, and was the "Go-To Person", I decided, I am going to the source. And you guys were right. She is the sweetest person and so helpful in getting my HJ Poet in Rabbit, dark sable, and did an amazing job! I ordered it in October and it arrived a few weeks ago.

Sent her a "Thank You Email" and could not be happier. (When that box arrived I went nuts).

Anyhoo, just wanted to say "Hello"... I HATE taking photos of myself so this is what you get as far as a smile. Thank you for your time).

Sincerely,

Michael B

Now that is more like it... Having trouble getting used to Flickr again.

Sorry, had to add this display as well!

I believe that this post should be in in "The Herbert Johnson Hall of Fame - A Display Thread", however I have no idea how to move it. Feel free moderators to move it yourself, if you wish.

Take care!

Michael B

Hmm, I can't see the image and as far as I can tell you copied the link the same way I would from Flickr. You may want to try again.

I can see the image, though it is a bit small. But regardless, I can make out the hat just fine, and I think it looks fantastic. Glad to hear you had a good experience working with Michelle! Sorry to hear about your old HJ biting the dust.

Congrats on the hat - nice pics. HJ makes a beautiful Raiders Poet. I took the leap of faith in June. Hoping to have it in a few weeks.

Thank you Mr. craigjohn! I am not too happy with these pics, but I intend to improve them and replace/add some more soon. Yes, it is really getting the shape I have REALLY wanted, thanks to a bit of sitting on, steaming, (very slightly), and getting the edges and swoops that are starting to take place. Along with a bit of hat stiffener... Hope to see your pics soon! Enjoy!

I ordered one too, very excited but also nervous.

Does deep sable have a slight ruddy (slight red or orange) color to it in real life?

Great looking hat, whip and jacket, man! :TOH:

Somehow your expression is fitting to adventure, quite gritty.

Cheers,
Bear

Hello SFGiant,

(Sorry this took a while)

I spoke with Michelle and was told that if I wanted THESE particular scenes, (Idol Grab/Raven Bar, Which are very dark looking hats), that I should go with the "Dark Sable".

As far as the color, when it arrived, It needed a lot of just beating up, but now it is starting to develop THE look.

My AB is way more "redder" however, this is more of a VERY dark brown, unless it is under direct light/sunlight... Looks good. It is darker than I expected, but after watching some screen moments, looks the same. Hope that helps? I am very happy with this purchase and was thinking the same as you!

Happy Adventures.

Thank you BearBeast! Yes. That is the gruff, gritty, steel look of determination! (Or something)...
