Hello, been wearing my Steele and jones hero jacket for awhile and lately I noticed around the collar the leather has darkened and lost that nice brown color I figured it was due to the sweat from my neck how do I resort that color I figured this would be a good place to ask.

Re: Neck Sweat on collar
Have you put any leather dressing on your jacket? That dark area is from natural oils from your skin. The lighter area looks like untreated leather that’s dryer than the neck area.
Neck sweat would look white from the salt in your perspiration.
I’d recommend putting some good leather treatment on your jacket and the color will even back out.

No I have not put anything on it and like you said the darker parts is from the oils from my skin but you said leather treatment could help any personal recommendations?Michaelson wrote: ↑Sun Jul 03, 2022 3:30 pm Have you put any leather dressing on your jacket? Pecards leather lotion or US Wings leather treatments have been my go to’s for years.

there are a few good quality well regarded degreasing leather preparations out there .. and leather cleaners .. rather than adding i'd try a leather degreaser in combination with a leather cleaner maybe? im in the UK and i use Autoglym cleaner on my jackets followed by Leather balm ... it doesn't change the colour of the leather.
Re: Neck oil on collar
It makes it "yours." Natural distressing, I'd leave it.

In my case I wasn’t recommending removing anything, but as it seemed to bother you was recommending rehydration of the untouched areas to recover the lost color, agreeing with Mike. That’s part of YOUR jacket’s history.

Re: Neck oil on collar
My go to treatment has been Obenauf’s Leather Oil.
Once after my jacket had been well “naturally distressed” and before I got into treating it, I met an old friend I hadn’t seen in ages and after talking about my Nowak he anxiously wanted to try it on. After doing so he asked why the collar was dark like that. I told him it was from my skin oils. He slowly, dramatically removed it and hand it back with a sour look. I laughed so hard it brought tears.
