Anybody purchased a roo whip from Leather Bond via eBay?
Curious about quality/legitimacy. Was looking at their 10’ 12-plait kangaroo in natural. Says they’re located in Alabama but not where the whips are made. Priced at $174.99.

Oh wow, the color looks even lighter in those pics than the listing.Indiana Jeff wrote:Apparently he's on Etsy as well.

Other seller is “Ardour” but there are troubling similarities in the listings...

I did confirm with the seller that they are made in Pakistan, but they insist they are very high quality.

Eh, I wouldn’t trust that too much.

Looks like most of their positive reviews are for um, restraints and floggers

Haha, very true. I will say they were more responsive to questions than Leather Bond, confirming that the laces they use are tapered, and that they only use very small nails in the heel knot and nowhere else in the whip construction. I guess they don’t want anyone getting hurt... in the bedroom...

I have a feeling that avoiding getting hurt is... Incongruous with that particular type of bedroom activities...
On a more serious note... Two of the pictures are way too similar to Leather Bond. Even if it is a different seller and not a double account: A respectable maker wouldn't use stock images to advertise their products...
And I wouldn't trust so much what they say. After all, a lot of people will lie just to sell stuff...
Just my ¢2...
Cheers,
Bear

I hear you. I’m not going to order from them. Thought the photo similarities were sketchy too. They probably use the same factory in Pakistan...
Waiting for some pricing info from Lelec at the moment.

That's the way to go, I think. The price might be slightly higher, but definitely worth it as the quality would be in another league!

I'm personally also a fan of Del Carpio's but that's also another price jump...bearbeast wrote:That's the way to go, I think. The price might be slightly higher, but definitely worth it as the quality would be in another league!

Yes, of course, you've got the 'big guns' whip-makers outhere. I was only thinking of very good quality, in the lower range, in terms of budget.

Re: Anybody purchased a roo whip from Leather Bond via eBay?
I can see why you'd pass on this whip, seems to be the same Mfg. bearbeast budget whip.
But why the interest in budget whips, do they hold up as well as a whip from Strain or Del Carpio's.\
The price is right, but if they're budget will it be a wise investment.
I've been having a very nice conversation with "the whip man" from new Zealand, ya know where the hides are jumping around so to speak. And yes I paid $467.00 (that's whip & shipping), more than budget, but also a lot lower tan the other guys.
He's been making whips for 44 years, so I have a feeling he know what's, what when it comes to whips.
He understand my desire for a Raiders whip, in natural hide with a darker transition knot. He's even is trying to source a white fall for me, he typically uses brown or dark red.
Anyone interested, thewhipman.co.nz
Not that it'll help, but tell Bruce sent ya his way.

Thanks for the recommendation!
I think I’m just looking at something economical to start. It’ll be my first whip and I’ve shelled out plenty of money elsewhere. Haha.

Now that I do understand.
I was lucky and bought a 8’ Strain, some time ago.
There prices have only gone up.
Good luck with your adventures.
IM seems to have a nice selection, when there in stock.

Re: Anybody purchased a roo whip from Leather Bond via eBay?
Seems like IM only has cowhide whips in stock. I could get their 8’ deluxe whip, or wait for the kangaroo whip to be back in stock. Other options are a whip from Lelec, cowhide or kangaroo, but the prices start to get close to what I could get from Nolan if I go with kangaroo. Life is hard.

Re: Anybody purchased a roo whip from Leather Bond via eBay?
I’m anxious to see what my 10’ will look like from the whip guy.
I know it’s not a budget whip, but it’s in my price point.
That and it’s kangaroo, 12 plaite with all the right stuff for a whip as far as inside and out.

I'm excited to see it too! I was looking at a roo whip from Lelec at a slightly higher price than what you mentioned for only 8', so maybe I'll wait and bother the Whip Guy when you're done with him. Haha.Indiana Croft wrote:I’m anxious to see what my 10’ will look like from the whip guy.

Not to derail, but his communication was spot on and quick.
Very patient.

Also been chatting with Josh at CatchallCrafts via Etsy. Newer to the game, but making some good looking whips and the price is much more palatable since he’s taking his lack of experience into consideration.
Re: Anybody purchased a roo whip from Leather Bond via eBay?
I just checked out that guy's whips and they look pretty decent. Not perfect - the odd gap in the braiding and some minor inconsistencies and not totally screen accurate, but a good overall Indy vibe, pretty solid looking, decent taper. A fair price, definitely. Of course, presuming the photos are actually his etc, etc.

Yes, I figured as much.
I've decided we'll just have to see. More to come on a new thread I've kicked off today... Stay tuned.
