Who has the oldest Wested? I just got a 19 year old Raiders

Post by Kokopelli »

I picked this up from eBay- a "Wested Raiders bought 19 years ago" was all that was in the description. The pictures in the listing were pretty dark, so I asked for a couple pictures outside, and the seller sent a few- I could see that the leather still had that 'sheen' on it and was a good color. He said it was a custom order, as he had a couple options when he ordered it.

It has all nickel hardware- zipper, the Fiocchi pocket snaps, and the strap D-rings, and it has X-box stitching on the straps.
It has some honest distressing only on the end of the sleeves and the wind flap edge.

USPS held it hostage for 3 weeks, so that's where the wrinkles on the pleats came from.

It's certainly a nice looking jacket.

If it is 19 years old, I'd be surprised, based only off the fact that it looks in way better condition than my three-year-old jacket. Maybe they never wore it?

My daughter has one I gave her from 1997 she still wears and still going strong.

Close to a quarter of a century old! :-k

I may have missed it, but what kind of leather is this? Looks fantastic!

My Wested is from 2000. Still wear it regularly. Not a stitch popped and the lining (all cotton) is still fully intact.

It's lambskin; it's a very lightweight jacket.

Older jackets seem to have a cloth inner collar stand. This is the nice dark drown they used pre 2003 ish I believe.

Nice score.

Yep, it's an older one, you can see that from the pockets and the flap design. Not accurate but... characterful. Mine from 2002 looked like this. Long sold. Nice condition. Like a lot of leather jackets it has hardly been worn and stored carefully. I like these a lot more now the years have gone on. Nice looking hide.

Thanks, all, it’s an awesome color and feels like silk. It fits perfect everywhere but the sleeve length. My darn my Siamang Ape-like arms strike again! ](*,)
I need another inch out of the sleeves...I’m not sure if I want to try the wet- stretch on this jacket or not. :-k
My initial plan was to darken the D-rings and add wind flap snaps for an LC jacket, and distress it.

(It’s funny to think back- during this time ~2000-2001, people were putting D rings on these for an authentic Raiders jacket!)

I have a Crusade lambskin from 1999, it has almost the same weathering if not more and it's lining has been changed twice. I wear it on a daily basis. Excellent piece.

Wow! This guy must have been easy on this thing. The lining is pristine. There’s a 1” cut in the leather, under the right strap that has been repaired- I would have never known it if he hadn’t told me about it.

My Wested just like this was called a Last Crusade. These were the days when Wested told us that the only difference between a Raiders and an LC was an additional inch in length and a snaps. We forget that Wested took years to recover screen accurate details.

...so it won't be sacrilege if I add snaps to this? :CR:

Sneak in hidden snaps between the two layers of leather of the wind flap...you’ll thereby be forgiven. :D

Ok, I just can't do it! This thing survived two decades as the Raiders jacket it was born as.
I do, however, need to replace the D-rings with some proper buckle/sliders. Who has a source for those?
