Great idea! Does it come on the green shade as well?

Very attractively done Sig. Magnoli.
Would you consider making one of your new pattern bags out of war time materials? Happen to have some original canvas and the metal furniture...

Re: MKVII Satchel: Screen Accurate with MODERN Interior!
Thanks guys! These are made in runs, so can't be customized at all. The color is an olive-drab like our last run of bags (which is a darker tone than the original bags we used to make, which had a more tan look). That being said, these are cotton canvas, so you can redye them a darker green, if you want.

This is interesting, I think I might pull the trigger on this.
Question on the strap (which is sold separately) though, which would best represent ToD?
I’m thinking dark brown with roller buckle.
Also I currently have a shirt in processing, is there way to combine?
thanks Indy for once again coming out with something new which looks like a iconic piece of gear.

Re: MKVII Satchel: Screen Accurate with MODERN Interior!
Such a fantastic idea. I had been eyeing my vintage surplus bag and considering how I might make a new one with a more functional interior. Then you go and do it for me. I still might make one from leather though, or waxed canvas.

Yes, dark brown with the roller buckle (for the three later films). Only Raiders uses the brown strap with slider buckle.Indiana Croft wrote:Question on the strap (which is sold separately) though, which would best represent ToD?

JC1972, have you tried our straps? I don't think a few inches would be that big of a deal. The buckle might sit a bit lower than average, but not dramatically so... unless you like wearing your bag particularly low.
Re: MKVII Satchel: Screen Accurate with MODERN Interior!
Sweet, I'll be ordering 1 for sure! Thanks for making these, I've attempted to use my regular MKVII bag on a few occasions but just haven't been satisfied with how the interior holds stuff

We're looking forward to seeing how the field testing goes with you guys. I'll be bringing one of these on a big trip coming up next months that should span around ten countries over six weeks. That should put it through the ropes!

Oh yeah!!! This is definitely my next purchase. My Mark VII has lasted me 20 plus years and 2 trips to Disney and it's about done. The modern insides are such an amazing addition.

Well, Magnoli, the bag held up awesome! I took it spelunking in caves at Craters of the Moon national park in Idaho. Didn't do anything other than some exploration and minor climbing with it, but it worked great! It held my gloves, water bottle, flashlights, phone, knife, and an extra shirt.
Worked great!

That's amazing! I basically did the same thing for my bag. I kept the outside design as much as possible as Indy's bag, but I made the inside pockets fit my every day carry items.
Very cool, guys!
Cheers,

As a writer, the only thing missing is space for my MacBook. For covering cons like D23 I’d love something functional yet blends in with some light cosplay.

The back most pocket will fit up to about a 10" square. Any bigger than that and the entire bag has to be bigger, which changes the overall shape and accuracy of the satchel. We have offered a fully custom laptop bag version of the satchel, including padded interior, but the price is quite a bit higher (around $150, if I remember correctly).

You can give us a rough sketch of what you want and we'll take care of it. The main point is when providing laptop sizing, you need to tell us if you want the back layout to be stretched vertically or horizontally (or we could increase the entire back to a 12" square).

Re: MKVII Satchel: Screen Accurate with MODERN Interior!
What do you recommend re back size? I’d like to hide the difference in size as much as possible in order to keep close to the Indy-look. I have a satchel bag I use that I slide my laptop into that’s roughly 12inches tall and holds it that way. I’ll post pics of it here when I can.Indy Magnoli wrote:You can give us a rough sketch of what you want and we'll take care of it. 11" x 12" should look too out of proportion.
Re: MKVII Satchel: Screen Accurate with MODERN Interior!
I came a little late but I wanted to say it is a fantastic idea ...
Re: MKVII Satchel: Screen Accurate with MODERN Interior!
I took my new modern mkvii out adventuring the other day, and I have to say I love the new interior. As someone who has carried repro Indy bags out in the wilderness countless times, this one is my new favorite! I love the increased viability/usability with the pockets, and my smaller gear pieces don't end up rubbing against each other now. The additional canvas used in construction does make slightly heavier, but it's not noticeable. The strap loops are solid, and the buttons nice and snappy. The new compartments are well-sewn and strong. If I could make one suggested change, it would be to move the pen loops upwards a tad bit (they seem kind of low). While the color seems a bit too brown (as some Magnoli bags are), but I feel like I can wholeheartedly recommend this one.

Great pic of the bag in action, there!
Do the new bags have the "double bottom" like the early Magnoli bags? Much better for keeping dust out while allowing drainage and breathability.

Re: MKVII Satchel: Screen Accurate with MODERN Interior!
I have one of those first run bags (which is still solid and gets used from time to time!), but unfortunately the new one does not have the double-bottom. Now that you bring it up, that's another thing I would change.davidd wrote:Great pic of the bag in action, there!

Re: MKVII Satchel: Screen Accurate with MODERN Interior!
Don’t wanna revive an old thread too bad, but I have run into a dilemma: I recently had a shoulder surgery and decided that the traditional two strap backpack I have typically carried is no longer a viable option. I have eyed the Modern MkVII and the custom MkVII as options for my laptop that I carry to class. I understand that the Modern version is 11" x 11", but I would like to know much "give" is in the material. My laptop has the dimensions of 12" x 9", and I was hoping I could squeeze it into the modern MkVII. But if I should splurge for the custom I shall.

Just picked up one of the modern bags (I love it, by the way, may buy another as a spare). They're not stretchy. To be clear, I think that's a good thing normally, as it means the bag will last longer. But you're probably going to have to go custom, unfortunately.

Might have to order one of these! My current second-hand Magnoli that I've had for... oh, eleven years maybe?... is showing enough wear that I've relegated it to just costume use. Would be nice to be able to have an MK VII to use on a regular basis again.

Re: MKVII Satchel: Screen Accurate with MODERN Interior!
I've had one of these for about 8 months and enjoy it. I use it for a daily work bag, it holds an ipad, water battle & snack easily. My laptop is too big for it. While it does fit in the bag, it sticks out the top about 4 inches and the flap can't be closed. That's a not a big deal for me when I need to tote the laptop around. Overall a cool item and more user friendly than a genuine MKVII bag for my use.

Received my Magnoli modern Mrk. VII and it's great. I think the interior will take some time getting used too as I've spent so many years using the bag I got from Noel Howard way back in the day. I can't wait to get some more use out of this and let it relax some.
Here it is compared to my original.

Re: MKVII Satchel: Screen Accurate with MODERN Interior!
Guys, I need you help with the bag - it went wet in the rain yesterday and the color of the 1942 stamp on the inside went through the flap. This results in an ugly spot on the flap which just looks bad. Any ideas how a) to remove the color of the stamp or b) stress the bag even more to make it look more natural? At the moment, it is just a flawless bag with an ugly spot.
And yes, I know it sounds weird to think about it as we all want to have the used look… but I thought the stamp should be water-proof (at least in the rain).

Re: MKVII Satchel: Screen Accurate with MODERN Interior!
I don't know what the factory used on the last set of stamps, but it's not the same as the previous run. Your best bet is to just wash the stamp, use some stain remover if you want and the ink should come out completely, or nearly so.
Re: MKVII Satchel: Screen Accurate with MODERN Interior!
Thank you! I‘ve done that and the stamp color is gone, not all of it, but the most. Sadly, some of the color of the satchel is now gone in this area, too. I will weather the bag slightly to get a more refined look.
Do you know if the current run does have the same problems with the stamp color? Think about to get an additional bag just to have a new one in case…
