Who makes close enough Indy shirts in od green/other colors

Post by fortysixandtwo »

What's your favorite Indy style shirts in od green or other colors? Something comfortable in the spring/summer. Does anyone make the indy shirt in the same pattern but different colors?

Depends on your definition of close enough. An Amazon search for "safari shirt men" netted me 1,000s of options.

Indy Magnoli makes his Adventure Shirt in many colors if you want bona fide Indy shirt with all the details.

Long sleeve fishing shirts are generally geared for summer wear, but tend to be made out of technical material and have back or chest vents that start to stray from what I would consider a close enough Indy shirt.

I’d really like to find one with same patterns as the Indy shirt but in od green. Maybe even a dark brown similar to the fedora color..
I’ll browse Magnoli..

Until recently, and for many years, LL Bean had a nice, sturdy poplin field shirt complete with epaulettes in a very-close-enough Indy khaki, OD green and navy blue.

But for some reason (lagging sales, I guess), they've dropped them from their lineup.

Mags makes it in other colors. Maybe not OD green but you can probably request it.

I've never seen any other vendor make the Indy shirt in other colors. You could probably dye one yourself if you wanted to experiment.

Now if you just want a Safari shirt in other colors, LL bean, Orvis, etc do have options.

Cabela’s makes both a long and short sleeve version of their safari shirt. I own some and love the cotton fabric. For some reason the site is down. So here’s what popped up in google.

Lots of colors here.

The Cabela's safari shirts have been a go to close-enough since forever.

I like the look of those Propper shirts.

Flying Cross makes a Uniform shirt I really like, It's got seams down the front and epaulets. I own one in tan and one in gray

Is this it? It actually looks halfway decent in their silver-tan color: https://flyingcross.com/fx5120" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Not the full seams down the front like Indy, but at least something there. In my opinion, if it doesn't have the lines down each side, it's not close enough. That's more important than even the exact color.

Agreed on the Propper shirts, but...

"lighter-weight Battle Rip® fabric that resists fading, shrinking and wrinkling. "

They'll always look brand new!

These Quartermaster shirts are inexpensive. Might be a decent close enough for a costume.
They also are in long and extra long lengths to prevent plumber’s crack.

And one for the lazy person. Fake buttons, lol.

Duluth makes a heckova' fine adventure shirt. I have 2 thin for summer. My only regret is that I did not buy 3.

Happy hunting

I'm a fan of the Orvis shirts. I use them for work (stormchasing) they are comfortable and built to last. A little pricey at $98.00 each but worth the money. They come in three colors including a very nice "Brittish Tan." Picture is of the Indy khaki color.
