Which Wested For The Larger Chap
I am looking at getting a Wested jacket later in the spring and could use some advice regarding which of the jackets offers the best cut for a chap of middle years and the attendant spread! I shall be looking at the made to measure option in any case but from what I have read the cut varies from film to film.

In general the Last Crusade cut is the most 'generous' and normal fitting jacket.

For a larger build, I would skip Wested and go with a US Wings Signature Series Indy jacket.

Thanks for the suggestion. I took a look but at twice the price plus import tax and vat I could get a Wested and a new HJ hat!Forrest For the Trees wrote:For a larger build, I would skip Wested and go with a US Wings Signature Series Indy jacket.

I agree with Jeff. The Last Crusade jacket is the best general fit. I have one and find it very forgiving of my large frame.

As much as I am pleased with my Wested's, this is sound advise, as 'Wing's' jackets are more 'forgiving', if you will in circumference. Just my two cents ! W>Forrest For the Trees wrote:For a larger build, I would skip Wested and go with a US Wings Signature Series Indy jacket.

Specifically the Signature Series. Not the Legend.

Yes from what I have seen over the years US Wings Signature is most accommodating.

As a man of similar body type, I advise avoiding Wested. The price seems awesome, but the odds are it won't work well for you. And... while I'm sure some would disagree with me... they are very hit-or-miss on custom measurements, but will insist they did what you asked for, regardless.
The US Wings may cost more up front, but not if you consider the likelihood of returning or selling off the Wested.

Re: Which Wested For The Larger Chap
I understand the concern over fit but a jacket from US Wings will end up costing $713.55 by the time I get it. Shipping, import duty, vat and a handling fee have to be considered. That's three standard range Wested jackets. I plan to take my bike out for a road trip and visit them so I can make a more informed choice and get measured by them. That way if the end product doesn't fit I have full recourse.Chewbacca Jones wrote:As a man of similar body type, I advise avoiding Wested. If you can go directly to the Wested barn and get personally measured, then all this discussion is 'moot'. You'll get a jacket made right and that fits, as there will BE no guess work on their part.
I think your road trip plan is perfect!

I've been to the Wested barn a couple of times. They'll get you to try on a Raiders and Last Crusade to see which fit you prefer, they'll also point out the armhole design on the Last Crusade and say some people find it restricts movement. The Last Crusade does hang a bit more loosely but how you feel it fits your arm movements will be the deciding factor. You can always try going a size up on both jackets.

Re: Which Wested For The Larger Chap
I am 6 feet 4 inches and around 230 pounds with a 38 inch waist. For my Wested jackets, I go a size up for a less form fitting jacket. They are not baggy at all but what I would call a relaxed fit. Raiders and LC.
I have found the Wested LC jackets to have the flying squirrel (whole jacket rides up when you lift your arms). Movie jacket did the same.
From the USW Signature Jackets I have owned but passed on, the collar reminds me of leisure suits I wore in the seventies. For you younger guys, they had oversized suit collars.......Legend jackets fit me better.

Re: Which Wested For The Larger Chap
If you have a big tummy (as per original post) then the Signature will be a superior fit.

Well, that changes things completely. If one is going to buy a Wested, that is the way to do it.

Re: Which Wested For The Larger Chap
Well I visited Wested yesterday and spent a lot more time than expected trying on jackets and looking at the different leathers. In the end I went for a Raiders in copper novapelle and a Raiders in dark brown goat. I just couldn't make a final decision so went with a heavier credit card bill instead! It also seems that I am practically an off the peg 52, just need the sleeves shortened. To cap off my visit Peter was in the shop as well so had a good natter with him. Very nice chap he is too. I'm wearing my Penman Everyman.
