I have been trying to get an accurate bash shape out of my hat for a while now. I can't seem to get it S.A. and it's driving me nuts! Any suggestions are surely appreciated.
Nice hat. Looks like floppy felt. What kind is it?
The Raiders hat was front pinched 2/3 to 3/4 inch off center, closer to the bow. (don't worry, the Raiders hat has the scar from an old dead center front pinch) You might want to turn it more or less, depending on how it distorts the brim.

Thank you! It's from a limited run of rabbit felt done by Mike at Northwest Hats. He does a great job. It came a bit stiffer but I ran it through the dryer on a low heat setting with some tennis balls to wear it in a bit. It made it shrink to fit a bit better too, and as far as I can tell it didn't cause any warping... yet...
I notice right off the bat that your creases go way to far back to the middle of the hat. They should be more to the front. What is the height of the hat open-crowned? What are your crease heights in the back and the front? Can you show a picture of it open-crowned so we know what we are working with.
Just so you know too. The measurement should be 4 1/2" in front and 3 1/2" in back. Those side dents might be a hair too far back but I think the main problem is the taper going on. With the side dents that far back, if anything the hat should be more stovepipe straight on sides.
What's the center dent look like on top? May be too deep?

Actually it's pretty shallow. I think I may just need to get it reblocked. Anyone know who has an accurate block shape and who the lowest price is? Alternately, I might get a block from hatshapers.com and do it myself. Seems like it would save a lot of money in the long run. Does anyone have any photos of a hat after being reblocked on their straight- sided dome? I know there are other threads on this but I haven't seen any pics.
Check out my current bash of my penman raiders in the penman post em ups. I happen to like it and feel it is quite SA.
You can see what he would charge for a reblock but you may be able to do just as well with the one you are thinking of purchasing. The block I mean.

Thousandbucks,
Which picture shows this "scar" of the dead center crease you mention?
[/quote] http://indygear.com/images/gear/fedora/RotLA_right.jpg ---------------- Just above the ribbon. You can find it elsewhere if you look for it, that pic is on the Indygear "Fedora" page. There are lots of stills of the hat before it was turned. It wasn't turned in the Bantu Wind dock shot, which might have been the first shot or somethin.
