This is my 9' 12 Plait Joeseph Strain Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (KOTCS) bullwhip. It was made about 5 years ago. I just purchased it from Blake Bruning at Trinity Whip Co. He got it from the original owner. It was described as being in like-new condition condition and well taken care of. As mentioned in another thread I was contemplating ordering a new whip from Bruning or Nolan, but this Strain really spoke to me. Since Strain is now semi-retired and no longer taking orders for new whips I decided to jump on this one. I know some don't care for the KOTCS Whiskey with Brandy knots, but I love it. The feel of the leather and craftsmanship of the whip to my novice eyes are staggering. I did email the pics of it to Strain and he confirmed it is his work. He did say the popper is non-original and should be black nylon. I'd like to hear others opinions of it.
Thanks! New question, how do people store their whips and what is best? Is in a drawer OK? On a shelf? Hang them up?
Update, just read this in the FAQ, so answered my own question:
"When storing the whip over long periods, its best to store the whip by either hanging it on a wooden peg or by laying it flat in a loose coil in a place that is not too dark, and a room with indirect light."
Some additional pics taken outdoors with natural overcast light.
Note, there is some residue from a leather dressing in the plaiting. I've cleaned it with a soft cloth and removed a lot of it, but some still remains. I'll try a soft tooth brush and see if I carefully remove it.
