It's in no way your fault! I bought it in the classifieds.

Nice of you to try to assist David. Another reason I love giving you business! Now, if the wife would just give me the green light on that new order!!!!!

The hat came a day before my birthday! Great job LLS! I've been wearing this daily. I've already rolled it up, sat on it, thrown it around.... Here are pictures I took shortly after getting the hat (pre-punishment). It already feels and looks different than from when I took the pictures. I'm heading to Scotland tomorrow for 2 weeks, and it will be astride my head the whole time.

When I pulled it out of the box it seemed so red. Very clayish. For the first few minutes I was wishing it was dark brown. However, I have grown very fond of the color over the last few weeks, and I wouldn't change it at all.

Awesome color. Though with sunlight and time I suppose it will get much lighter?

I feel like that is exaggerated. I've worn my fedora in some serious sunlight over the few years I've had it and I haven't noticed any lightening in the color whatsoever. My jacket however, is a different story.

This is odd. I responded to this today but now message is gone.
Anyway.
Yeah. I feel it's where you live (FL) for me. How much exposure and all.
I understand both Steve and John allow for sun fade by making them darker out the gate.

My Garrison Raider (Garrison owners unite here!)

Post by Dr. Nebraska S. »

I'm curious on the issue of fading for Garrison hats. I have a different company's hat but I believe it's the same provider of felt as Garrison has. Regarding the topic of fading, you can see in this photo the fading of my older fedora from 3 seasons of excavating in Israel, compared to my new fedora.

Let me be clear:the photo is of 2 AB fedoras, not a Garrison.

http://i1305.photobucket.com/albums/s55 ... 932d3b.jpg

Interestingly enough, I would say mine faded to a somewhat similar shade as the new Garrison shade, so I wonder if the new Garrison shade will fade further or remain the same. My post is not intended to derail the discussion--but I think the felt (though a different color) is provided from the same source as Garrison's. I'm curious how Garrison's new color will look over time! I've always liked the look of the Garrison hats I've seen in person, and wouldn't hesitate to recommend his hats to anyone.

Best wishes,

Dr. Nebraska S.

FYI, things sort of took a hard right turn after the reference was made to Dr. NB's AB, and went into a discussion regarding the AB line.

This is a Garrison hat thread.

As long as the discussion is generalized, no harm, no foul, but this turned into an AB hat discussion, so as per the posted rules, those items were removed to get the thread back on topic.
You agree that “Club Obi-Wan” has the right to remove, edit, move, use, or close any topic at any time should we see fit to keep threads on topic.

No notification will be given should this be required.
Ironically, I just BENT the rule by MAKING a comment, but thought it would clear up what just happened and why. ;)

On that note, I have never noticed much in the way of color fading on any of my beaver hats made with Winchester Felt, regardless of the maker, down here in the Tennessee summer sun.

I have on my rabbit Winchester felts.

The ribbons, on the other hand, are a COMPLETELY different story.

That said, John Penman has started a separate thread on felt fading, if you'd like to pursue the subject:

Dave just texted me saying he was having, quote, 'massive email and website problems', and that he's been in text contact with each service trying to straighten things out.

He's still working hats, it's just his ISP folks who are screwing up at the moment.

I realised I never got round to mentioning that my hat eventually DID arrive! I was disheartened as the previous owner had stuffed it into a MUCH too small box- to the extent that it took a few days to get the brim to look vaguely normal. In addition, it was sold to me as a size 59, but was either severely shrunken or a 57 or a 58 at best. As such, it is very tight fit on me. Nevertheless, I rebashed it - gave it a bit more of a Raiders look than it had ( although I think the original owner may have trimmed the sides of the brim a little - they are a bit more LC than Raiders) - and I'm fairly pleased with the result. Certainly, what I can say is that the Garrison hat is a lovely hat - very nice felt! ( Those who know me at all, know I've had a lot of the major hats -and then some!) I'm really quite tempted to order a new one to fit me better :-)
THe plus side of a hat that's too tight is it doesn't blow off in a strong Irish gale! :-) And a day or two on the beach gives the felt looks a great SOC look :-)

Assuming it's reasonably comfortable, looks like you did a great rescue job on it!

My Garrison is probably 4 or so years old now and still as good as new. I've just washed off sweat stains and given it a brushing from time to time.

Great hats!

Received my Garrison 'TOD' in beaver this week and I cannot put into words how perfect this edition is -- perfect 'Village Scenes' look! I am not noted for, nor great at posting pics, but will make an effort with the assistance of a friend from work, later this week! Great addition to my 'Indy' hat collection. W>

I hope I am not doing anything wrong by posting here, (I don't own a Garrison hat at present.) I hope to in the very near future. :notworthy:

Mine arrived today. Very well packaged. A little snug for a 7 1/4 so I ordered a hat stretcher on EBay. Fits more like a 7 1/8 so should not be an issue to get a good fit. Most 7 1/4 are slightly large but shrink up after a few wears.

Update from the last post. Received the hat stretcher and used it on the Garrison. Took it easy over a couple of days with only 2 slightly increased turns. Fits like a proper 7 1/4 now.

Good to hear. You may find that keeping it on the stretcher at the set tension when not wearing of course, will ensure the sweat does not revert so quickly.

Now maybe some pics so we all believe you really have said hat :CR:
