How do I attach the ring to the butt of my S&W?
I have a replica S&W from Western Stage Props but it doesn't have the ring on the butt. How can I make one?

They used to come with this one installed, but since it's apparently discontinued, that explains why your WSP S&W is without it. You may wanna scour the net for a 'new old stock' or used one:

Another option is to buy an original ring (easily found online), drill a hole, and epoxy it in.

Or use a tap and dye and make it really nice.

A tap and die won't work for the non-threaded plunger-style attachment of the original 1917 butt swivel. The Uncle Mike's swivel maybe.

Thanks! Any idea where I can go to get it drilled in for cheap? I don't own a drill.Cajunkraut wrote:They used to come with this one installed, but since it's apparently discontinued, that explains why your WSP S&W is without it. You may wanna scour the net for a 'new old stock' or used one:

Perhaps someone you know has one? WSP may have some advice as well.

Just do a google image search for "butt ring"... I'm sure you'll get plenty of ideas.

Indy Magnoli's prop building expert suggestions aside, I recommend the ring type shown in the midwayusa link Cajunkraut provided. I bought one from my resin Webley and it was a cinch to install. Ask around, someone you know has to have a drill and a few bits. Resin is reasonably soft so it doesn't take much. Select a drill bit slightly narrower than the screw on the ring, hold the gun so the bottom part of the handle is parallel to the floor and drill straight down slightly deeper than the screw length. Then you can gently screw the ring into the hole by hand. It took me all of 5 minutes to add the ring to my Webley and I'm hardly a sure hand at prop making.
